Hello,

I don't know that this topic has been discussed or not. But I was wondering what to buy from here to give to our relatives and friends interms of economic and quality base.

So far I am thinking couple of things
--Almonds
--Kesar(Saffron)
--Clothes
--Cosmetic items

any other suggestion that they would really like it from here?

thanks

Depends upon how much you can afford. Common items would be dry fruit and cloves, cookies and crackers (my sister loves "Toppables";), good quality chocolates. I also tried sending Middle eastern sweets that you get in falafel stores.

Cosmetics - yes although everything is available in India

Clothes - IMHO, you get better quality clothes in India.

Made in Canada items like showpieces - you can get them at gift stores or at some stores in Queens Quay

The quality of dry fruits available over here (almonds, pista, cashew ) is definitely superior to what you get over there.

The other thing you might want to look at is a laptop. You can find low-end laptops for around $400 (Rs 16,000), but comparable ones in India are over Rs 25,000

* B-in-L always asks for Socks - specially White Cotton.

* Current Disney/Nick collection for Kids.

* Cosmetics available - but knock-offs are more wide spread.

I took 10 clocks from the $ stores. Now they are $1.25. It's written Canada on it nnd is red in colour. Uses single AA battery. It flew off like hot cakes. News spreads fast among desis. People started calling us abt the clock as they came to know that others were given as a gift.

I would also recommend winter clothing in case you wish to spend $20 plus ... you can get good things in spring at off season discount .

I also check liquidation stores like factorydirect or XS Cargo - they carry stuff that might be useful if required at a fraction of the original prices ... things like blood pressure monitors etc , key chain cameras , crank winding flash lights etc .
