Interesting article .
I agree with you biomed...this article is old and things have taken a downward trend...per the 2003 report Canada has slipped to # 8 just behind US.
For anyone to enjoy the benefits wehich Canada (or any country for that matter ) is to have a sustainable income. If one has that then it is a great place to be , otherwise even the best country in the world can look pretty grim.
I happenned to chance upon another UNDP report which is a more current and was published in 2003.
http://hdr.undp.org/reports/global/2003/pdf/hdr03_MDG_tables.pdf
it is a long report measuring many parameters, most of which i do not even understand ....but i checked 3 key indicators and felt very sad...sad not for Canada but for india.
According to this report 34% of population in india lives on less than 1$ a day. It is 0% for canada.
and only 49% of population has access to affordable drugs. it is 95-100% for Canada.
the one which really made me feel bad is that 24% of india's population is undernourished.
Lets hope a day will come when the whole of india shines and not just the urban centers.

What can be imagined, can be achieved.
Yeah MI you are right... less than a $ per day looks too low.... try to calculate this amount as per cost of living in those countries. In India 80% population live in rural area, in those areas cost of living is further low.
Thanks and regards.
