Indians outraged at an attack on women for drinking in a bar have gathered together to send a provocative gift of underwear to right-wing activists.

More than 5,000 people, including men, have joined the Facebook group, which calls itself the Consortium of Pub-going, Loose and Forward Women.

The group says it will give the pink underwear to Sri Ram Sena (Army of Lord Ram) on Valentine's Day on Saturday.

It was blamed for the bar attack in the southern city of Mangalore last month.

Pramod Mutalik, who heads the little known Ram Sena and is now on bail after he was held following the attack, has said it is "not acceptable" for women to go to bars in India.

ND TV, Sunday 9.00PM and Barqa Dutt served another “ace” titled Culture or Sexism, but no one was interested to play against her. The result all the hypocrite/secular participants went overboard and competed with one another.

First there was this lady who says that her son asked how it was to get drunk. She said she gave him his first drink at home and wanted him to experience the same himself. Thus she says she acted responsibly and taught her son “responsibility”.
Then there was this lady who declared that though her grand mother was from a different generation, she went to a pub and she would permit her grand daughter also to do the same. The only problem was that this participant herself looked like a grand mother.
There was another grandmother who had brought a chaddy to be gifted to Muthalik, but was hesitant to take it out since it was not exactly pink colour.
There was this third person again a female who looked like a martial arts exponent and an army commando in civil clothes. If only all the female pub goers who got beaten up by the hooligans in Mangalore, had the build like her, the protestors in turn would have been hospitalized.
Then Charu Sharma the sports commentator said that he had not tasted a single drop of alcohol, but still supported people doing their own things within the legal framework or something to the effect. Someone commented he was really missing something in life. But definitely not the free air time for one hour on this English news channel.
Charu Sharma’s neighbor Ramachandra Guha informed that though he does not go to a pub, but sit at home to listen to Hindustani music, it was his wife who goes there. It was not right on his part, he should have been preparing the dinner.
In between there was this cacophony of Renuka Chaudhry trying to fish in troubled waters of a BJP ruled state declaring “Pub Baro” agitation. She is a Congress minister in the Central Government for “Women and Child Welfare”!
The person who felt she was the chief guest was the one who came up with the idea of sending pink underwear to Ram Muthalik. She explained how she hit upon this brilliant idea. We also happened to see on a different programme, how the protestors were scribbling messages on these clothes. Particularly we could see them write in uppercase “RAM” on the underwear.
My Lord Ram “appa” can take this and much more, for it is like a dog barking against the Sun. If Lord Ram and his ideals that are ingrained in millions of Indians are not going to cover and protect their womanhood what else is going to? In this particular programme most women with their empty foreheads itself could identify themselves who they were and we could understand why all this fuss about going to a pub.
But why again Mangalore and why again poor Yeddyurappa? We are reminded of the old Horlicks advertisement, “Kodukara Kaasuku, Horlicks thaan” (It is Horlicks that gives money’s worth). May be we should substitute Horlicks with foreign funds.

Taliban supposedly means “students”, but in reality has come to be associated with fundamentalism, narrow interpretation of Islam and terrorism. Taliban is basically a creation of the developed countries of the West. Therefore, it retains the same dishonesty, hypocrisy and intolerance of the Western countries. Based on a lone and isolated incident in Mangalore, the English news media went to town that there is a “Hindu Taliban” which has come about. In reality, it was a conspiracy against the BJP ruled state of Karnataka, intolerant of the party coming to power for the first time in Karnataka and taking roots in South India.
Anyway, it will be interesting to find out whatever the “Hindu Taliban” would come to mean. People like Ram Muthalik can never be warriors of the Hindu Taliban. Actually, he or the footloose Susan is opposite sides of the same coin. Hinduism, as given in the Vedas, Upanishads and interpreted by great saints like Adhi Shankara, Ramanuja and Madhvacharya says all matter in the Universe are the manifestations and different forms of God. This includes all living and non-living things. The Vedas pray for peace and happiness for mankind, all flora and fauna of the entire planet. If we were to go by this definition, a “Hindu Taliban” should be chanting and praying for peace to everyone and also for the ecology of the planet.
Even an illiterate Hindu will tell that God is one and the same for all religions.It is this belief which allowed all religions to flourish in India. There are people in other religions that indulge in false religious propaganda that Hindu Gods are forms of Satan and worshipping them means worshipping Satan. In the last century, it was the Hindu Taliban headed by Mahatma Gandhi which won us freedom, allowed for free participation of women in the freedom struggle, gave them voting rights straight away when India came into being and ensured democracy for more than one billion people. It is the best bet against narrow religious fundamentalism, terrorism and separatism for the Hindus as well as the other religious minorities in India. A simple survey of the northeast India will tell the story, what will happen if any other religion becomes the dominant or majority in that region.
