Hi,

I am planning to visit India first time. I was looking for decent prized accommodation in Mumbai and Ahmadabad.

Can anybody recommend any hotels etc places?

Thx in advance!

It will help to let us know what areas you want to cover, especially in Mumbai where local travel is a major hassle, it is advisable to stay as safely close to your visiting area as possible..

In Ahmedabad, there are basically 2 parts - old Ahmedabad (City) and New Ahmedabad (suburbs), seperated by the sabarmati river. Again the suburb you wish to travel will help to zero down on the Hotel.

We used to use the Nalanda Hotel in Navrangpura area - it is very decent and Mid-priced, centrally located.

Good luck.

Hi,

Its my first time to India in generally. Not sure which part is good to stay in Mumbia or Ahmedabad.

What are the charges for Nalanda Hotel? Do I need to do advance booking. How do I pay them - in cash their or credit card?

Thanks

So you don't know what exactly you wanna visit/see in either of the cities?

When are you planning to go?

for Nalanda tarriffs :

It is better you pay them on site after viewing the rooms. The last I visited them was in 2001, almost 7 years ago, things might have changed.

But there are tons of good hotels along Ashram road, which runs parallel to the Sabarmati River and hence a good place between the new and old city.

C.G. Road is a popular shopping destination.

Otherwise you have many tourists spots worth visiting depending upon your likes/preferences. It is very communal sensitive, so please prepare accordingly. Look for a local guide there - a friend or family member.

For Mumbai, you need to research your interests first before we can advice where to stay. Good hotels are near the Airport, Near Juhu beach, Bandra bandstand, South Mumbai, central Mumbai..everywhere.

There is another thread on CD with hotel recommendations, you may like to search for that as well.

Good luck.

Hi,

I wasn't able to find that thread on Mumbia hotels.

However, I was able to do some research and came with the following 4 (for Mumbia).

Does anybody have any thoughts:

1) Cowie
15 Walton Rd
Off Colaba Causeway
near Electric House
Coloba

2) Sea Green South Hotel
145 Marine Dr
400020
http://www.seagreenhotel.com

3) Sea Palace Hotel
26 J.P Ramachandani Marg
Apollo Bunder 4000039
http://www.seapalacehotel.com

4) Shelley's
30 P.J Ramchadani Marg
Apollo Bunder

I was looking for something around Rs2500 - budget hotels basically. Location wise, can be flexible - thought don't want to be near a risky area.

Thanks for your help.

These all hotels are near the south end of Mumbai. Though you are close to Gateway of India and some of the favourite tourists spots, but the drive to and from airport is about 1.5 ~2 hrs depending upon the time and the traffic direction.

Also, a few areas in Apollo bunder are not very safe after dark, just be careful. But thats the case with all of Mumbai - every area has pockets you need to be careful after dark. There is some kind of 'street smartness' you need to develop when travelling after dark in Mumbai - avoid lonely roads, dont dress/behave like tourists, especially ladies should dress 'conservatively' to avoid attention, talk softly not to be easily overheard etc...

I dont have any experience with these hotels though....

Good luck.
