Last year when I was thinking of doing some IT related courses I had in front of me
1) Data Warehousing
2) Oracle applications (financials)
I got The Data Warehousing toolkit - Complete Guide to Dimensional Modelling By Ralph Kimball and went through the book in Detail.
I found it very interesrting and was also able to understand a lot of it.
So having gone Thru the book I thought of taking the Cognos courses. The second choice was to go to India and do the Oracle Financials courses. I had about $5000 CDN to spend...guess what I chose India. turned out to be a bad move as of yet I have not received any offer.
I wish I had stayed back in canada and done the Cognos courses.
Datawarhousing is a very Interesting field.
Good luck.

I once made a mistake, but I was wrong about it.
mercury,
There are lots of DW trainings available in india now. I think they make you familiar with Cognos,Informatica,Buisness Objects etc. The only thing you should know , how to choose a better DW training center. Also deciding the industry demanding DW tool ,to master with is another factor. I'm in search of finding out which is the most wanted DW in Canada. I think Cognos,Informatica,Oracle WH builder,SAS are doing well in canada. Do you have any info. about this ?
Sorry for posting something which is not related to the actual subject of this thread.

HI ani,
I found your inputs really helpful and informative......
I am in a catch 22 situation. I am working in europe in IT industry and have a canadian PR and want to shift soon. I dont want to leave my current job in europe unless I have something else on hand here but I have been advised by the people in the industry that I should not expect to get a job unless I am physically here for about a couple of months at least. I have been depending totally on the online job postings till now but all those efforts seem pretty futile now.
Please advise.......

For Canadian CV few points to help you :
1) make employment history year wise not by project wise like in India.
2) don't write complete details of project, Only hilight what was unique in that project and skill which can match with your role in the project.
3) don't used I have worked on.... or I was Involved in... kind of sentance.. Try to write active and dominating words.
4) make a matix table at the end of CV which shows your SKILL, Level, Last Used and Experience...
Cheers
Raj
