I am currently enjoying my vacation in India . I wish to know what other CDs would recommend bringing back from India in terms of food items with respect to customs reservations .

I was thinking of bring lots of sweets (non milk) and namkeen things - can someone suggest based on experience as to what precautions need to be taken and what things can be brought across .

Yes, milk products are not allowed. There is a fine of CAD 400 if you are caught. I never bring anything from my trips overseas because of this. However, my wife brings some indian sweets without any problem.

My experience went as follows - I carried almost 10 -15 kgs of food products which included sweets , namkeen , lentils and spices besides dry fruits and I did not declare the same on the customs form as I did not feel the form needed these items to be mentioned .

I verbally disclosed to the Customs guy @ Montral about the things I was carrying and he did not question further . Upon reading further on the CBSA site I felt that they were more averse to animals / poultry / milk products or plants which could cause infection or disturb their ecological status .
