This is to answer your question.
I came here 4 years back. Being in IT I was able to get a job pretty quickly (2 Months ) but was not up to the same mark as my last job in Dubai. I had to take something just to start and gain some Canadian Experience. Within 8 Months I was able to move to a better job with my actual expertise.
The only reason I was able to quickly get into the main stream because I am in IT. Expect IT all other Professions are highly regulated. Whether you are a Doctor / Engineer/ Teacher you will need a North American equivalence. It is a different thing if you are not looking for a specialized job.
Did you know that your profession might be regulated in Canada? If no then you should check, unfortunately no consultant will tell because they just want their fees.
The big thing which people from Gulf will find is the taxes. Everything is Taxed here. Whether it's your Salary or Purchases. You will not be able to save anything. Also the Salaries are not as lucrative as compared to Dubai. I know Dubai has become very expensive now but most of the people who move here from Dubai are well settled and make enough to save quite a bit. Here it is quite impossible. Even a 6 Figure salary is not enough here.
This is my opinion. People need to decide why they are coming here. Current economic situation is not going to change any sooner - atleast for 2 years. The layoff's which are happening in North America and now in Canada is not a secret.
You need to decide why you want to come here. Most of the people who come here come for their children. Hence it is a personal choice. People in the past have been blind folded of the name and come to North America without getting into all the details. Yes a person who comes from India will find it much better - Life Style wise etc. But a person who comes from ME ummm...
be prepared for a shock.

Hello protrax218,
I am not surprised that you were not aware of the regulation thing. Your consultant should be telling you that.
To answer your question, I think you profession is not regulated.
But you should check from this link.
http://www.workingincanada.gc.ca/start-eng.do
If I am correct your profession is not regulated.
Just to let you know, Publication industry has been greatly impacted by the economic recession. Companies are not able to survive, so think who all will be interested in putting their money in Marketing and advertising.

I have been recently laid off from work here and want to know from current uaeites what the job scene is in UAE right now.I feel looking for jobs out here is just as bad so I am planning to go on a visit and apply for jobs there.I have uae market experience in sales/marketing.
Will i be able to find one say within a month ..stretching it will be too expensive as I have to pay for my own acco there.
Any feedback.
Hello protrax218,
Good to know that you found the link useful. It would be interesting to know what your consultant - maybe you want to share it with others.
These are some basic things every consultant should tell their client but they never do, they just want their fee. And unfortunately people get stuck when they come here. Forutnately now we all these forums like CanadianDesi there is little but some awareness.
As for your case, If I was you I will not make a move in 2010. Things are not going to take a turn in 1 Year. You should save as much possible as you can so that you have max cash when you come here. That is your only safeguard.
Also just for a start you might want to check Workopolis / Monster and see what kinds of opening are there currently in the market.
Regarding salaries, all what is given on the web-site is a guideline. Nothing is fixed. And moreover in today's economic situation, those numbers are meaningless.
I still repeat, People from the ME not to come to NA any soon. Not a good idea at all unless you are desperate.
Hi all,
