I want to share a story which goes half century back in 1950s.
My great grandma left us and so as per rituals of 'Asthi Visarjan' my granpa went to Haridwar even though he was a partial atheist as he beleived in God but detested the blind faith people showed in Pundits and supestitions.
Now at Haridwar his brother who had joined him asked a pundit to perform the Pooja and after chanting few mantras, the pundit said "Now its time for your mom to leave for heaven in Vayu Yaan but first you put Rs11 as dakshina and i can get you her darshan. My granpa was getting a little irritated but his brother went on and put down the asked amount.
The pundit said "look there in the sky you will see your mom riding on the golden vayu yaan "..that trigered my old man's temper and he slapped the pundit who must have been in his 20s..and said "ab dekh main tuje saare devi devta dikhata hun ..." and left. The pundit said "iska aapko paap lagega aur aapki mrityu bahut jaldi ho jaegee" ( you are doomed now).
My granpa lived for 85 years and died a happy man!
What I learnt from this was just do your bit to help someone and it'll get you a step closer to God.
Footnote:All pundits please i don't mean any offence.BTW i belong to a Brahmin family too !
Well, to see the positive side, the news was with respect to moon. So no harm done. Check this -> http://www.dnaindia.com/report.asp?newsid=1152984
"50 people looking for solar image of Mary lose sight"
I don't believe in god-men... but if some one else believes in them, I don't try to correct them either. They see God in them; but it is unfortunate that some god-men try to exploit those emotions. I have no idea how truthful sai baba is. I never believed in him, but have a few close relatives who are die hard believers. Based on what I hear from them, I like some of the initiatives he does - in lines of what Balaji said - but I don't like some others. One funny thing I came to know is, all in his close circle are required to remove mustache and beard! Whether has any divine capabilities or just faking, got to accept that, he is a good leader and crowd puller. His followers runs in millions!!
To stretch it a bit - without meaning any disrespect to any one - even Rama, Krishna, Jesus, Nabi are all depicted as men - god's incarnation or otherwise. Most of us believe in one or the other of them, right?
Personally, I like this story of Vivekanada.
----
At Alwar, some Muslims became his disciples. While Swamiji used to eat in their houses, he became acquainted with Maharaja Mangal Singh. Initially the Prince had no faith in the Swami. There was a heated debate between the two. "Swamiji, I have no faith in idol worship," said the Maharaja. The Swamiji replied, "An idol is only a symbol. It is not something to sneer at. Every devotee has his own way of realizing God. It depends on the individual's devotion." The Prince was not satisfied with Swamiji's explanation. There was a portrait of the Maharaja on the wall. The Swamiji asked the Diwan (chief minister) by his side, "Whose picture is that?" "The Maharaja's," replied the Diwan. Vivekananda said, "Spit on it." The Diwan was taken aback. "Why are you unhappy?" asked the Swamiji. The Diwan thought this man was certainly mad. Swamiji explained: "After all, the photograph is just a shadow of your Maharaja. It is devoid of flesh and blood." "But then it reminds us of the Maharaja, does it not?" said the Diwan. Wisdom then dawned on the Maharaja. He apologized to the Swamiji.

Is it Sathya Sai Baba or Jimi Hendrix on the moon? Neither, dudes. The moon is a beautiful-looking but very desolate place... if not quite as bad as Prashanthi Nilayam when you get on the wrong side of them there.
There is plenty of documentary material showing how stupid these 'devotees' of such a blatant liar are.
