Just kinda thought since we are living in Canada and like to integrate we should adopt some of their customs and all...How 'bout wishing everybody "Happy Thanksgiving".

Hope you enjoy tonite. We are getting ready for a tandoori turkey night.

Of course sheekh kababs made with turkey meat will start off the evening.

Rice with pine nuts and kismis to go with the turkey later on with Indian style gravy.

Nice mara-mari. Ganga-Jamna if you will.Fusion whatever. Mango icecream to top it all off.

And anyway, I personally flash on the idea of Thanksgiving. Give thanks for what all we have ....Cool notion.

Happy Thanksgiving.!

What is 'Thanksgiving': It is thanking for something that we received.
It has changed over a period of time. Originally it was observed as a day for thanking the Good Lord for saving everyone who endured a long and arduous ships journey. For a while they even stopped observing any of this and laid low for a while. When the Yanks ran the gauntlet and arrived here into Canada, they brought their celebrations here with them. And the arrival of spring and the recovery of the health of the Prince of Wales, after a short sickness, they observed it in April. Then in late 1800's it see sawed and was observed with no rhyme or a reason. It could be for a Bountiful Harvest or for any occasion special to thank for. After the first world war (WW I) having lost a few good men, they started to observe on Monday closest to the November 11th. In 1957, the Canadian Government stepped in and said enough is enough and said that they were going to thank a bountiful harvest and started to celebrate it on the first Monday in October. They never worked on a Friday anyways, so it became a Four Day weekend for the hardworking Parliamentarians.

The Americans in the 17th century, did not have enough of their own kind and so celebrated the same in November, as their harvesting closed around that time. They had two crops during a year and also had the advantage of being more southerly than the Canadians had sun shine for a longer period. None of them had any contact with the North nor they followed the people up here. During the 18th Century, the church observed it not for the abundance in the crops, but as a day of observance to the Lord and FASTED on that day. In December of 1777, they observed it as a victory celebration, upon the surrender of a British General to the colonies. There after they kept it going in December, but it had to be proclaimed by the President prior to being celebrated as a holiday. Then for a few years the President did no such thing and they observed nothing. Then in the beginning of the 19th century The President then in power declared it a few times but none went forward to celebrate it in the fall.Since the Yanks did not want to have too many days off work, so they did not observe it till President Abraham Lincoln declared it as a Nati0onal Holiday and started observing it on the last Thursday in the month of November.

The best thing is when we observe our Thanksgiving day here in Canada, they in United States Observe the same day as COLUMBUS Day.
The bird that some of us eat was thought to have been brought to us from TURKEY. And the French thought it was a bird from INDIA and so they started to call it the "D'inde." (coq dinde). The bird from India.
All that matters is that we all have a three days break at the start of October. Then back to the grind till a guy in a Red suite (Santa Claus) shows up in the Chimney.

Freddie.

What if house does not have Chimney? He won't show up? Not that he matters to me. Chimney or no Chimney, I'll get my 4 days break.
