That's a relief. I think our judiciary seems to be the most corruption free branch, at least at the highest levels.
People should get into top institutions by merit alone. If everyone has some quota by which to sneak in, pretty soon the brand equity that these institutions have taken years to build will be diluted. Then everyone loses.
But, then again, nobody accused politicians of having foresight!

It is just a temporary step. SC will bow down to political pressure and very soon ALL political parties will unanimously pass a resolution/ legislate to ensure that reservation will be back with full vengeance. India is a classic example how a numerical majority can absorb powers of numerical minority and exploit them shamelessly in name of democracy. Until Supreme court is able to assert that democracy is not just rule by majority but it is subject to certain fundamental principles of fairness, equity and justice, nothing will imporve
