i think getting a new one can be quite costly... may be i should try to get hold of an used one or a refurbished one...
True. Cost is the key. But really, if interchangeable lenses is not a major factor for you, please consider some of the point and shoot cameras that come with all manual controls and features.
My uncle just picked up the Canon Rebel Xti from Henry's with a few lenses (wide and tele-something). He paid about $3000 for it all. I don't know much about cameras but he said this was one of the best ones out there currently.

I bought Two camera from ebay.ca .
D70 and D70s (one for me and one for my brother in india)
both have warranty card and yet valid, I just went to seller house and buy and save GST PST
as a starter on Digital SLR I like this way to save money
