I haven't looked at it in detail yet ... but just came across - so thought of sharing with you all.

TORONTO — Canada's first provincial government internship program for internationally trained professionals is helping skilled newcomers get work in their fields, said Ontario Premier Dalton McGuinty.

this is exactly what I have been saying to people I meet since I came across this 'Canadian Experience' thing five years back. The government should provide 6 months internship in various departments where they can pay a person a fixed allowance say same as EI amounts and let him/her have the Canadian experience. This will create a win-win situation for all - the government will be able to get really good work done at a very low cost and a new immigrant will be able to get the Canadian experience while earning a living.

So finally someone heard my suggestion!

The program is called Career Bridge - http://www.careerbridge.ca" rel="nofollow">LINK

At my work place (Provincial Govt.) we have 2 candidates from that group. I could see them in the video. There's a very strong possibility they'll get hired.

but all these programs are for people who are in Canada less then three years and under 30 years.

and the rules are strict, as even if you are just over 30 and just over 3 years in Canada, they will not take you.

I dont think you have to be under 30 years ..... it doesn't say it on the web site. Also i was part of the program last year & i was way over 30.

Even though i did not get my job through Career Bridge, I think it is a good program and newcomers should take advantage of this.

There has been some intiative taken by Provincial Government even in regulated fields. Presently there is a program going on for internationally trianed architects which is organised by OAA (Ontarion Association of Architects) and JVS.

It sounds like a great program.

Hopefully other provinces will follow suit.

Other programs such as Mentorship programs, Practice Firms and Wage Subsidies also assist newcomers.
