Hi,

Generally speaking, baseboard heaters were used in the earlier years when the electricity used to be cheap and gas/furnaces not very effective or available. Nowadays, baseboard heaters are used to heat up the rooms where the gas furnace's heat is insufficient, like room above garage or the garage itself.

Baseboard heaters usually take longer to heat up a room. However, they proove to be effective in conjunction to the gas furnaces and provide possibility of having varied temperatures in each room of the house.

The decision to choose between the two is entirely based on your own needs and ability to cope up with its techonology...and of course hydro bills.
