Is it possible to convert appliances from 220 V, round pin to 110 V, flat pin using some sort of adapter or by changing the cable? Does anybody in India do it, say in Chandni Chowk in Delhi?

Here in Canada labour is very expensive and it is better to buy the product than go in for this sort of a thing.

you can find these round>flat pin plug adapters in India real cheap (i'm using a cpl of them). It looks like a flat pin plug...only difference is it has a round pin input. You may also be able to find them in dollar or hw stores in Canada. I do not remember where I got my adapters from.
*IMP:*Make sure your electrical appliance is also set to the correct voltage.** e.g: your sound system may have a switch to set it to 110v or 220v

You can go to a shop in the Steels West Flea market. There is a desi shop which deals in electrical appliances, voltage converters as well as accessories like plug converters, cables, cable converters etc. It is reasonably priced shop and things are available in abundance.

The Steels West market is on Steels Avenue just slightly west of Dufferin. In case you want to buy some appliances, that is a good place too since a bit of price negotiation can be done for cash payment.
