Thanks Jake3d,
Thank you very much for your reply.
Aum productions is actually a group of 5 volunteers from various places in life, I’m actually a university student, the others are desi's who want their children involved, and want to help out our community at large.
Aum productions is a non-profit organization formed by a group of dedicated volunteers who have a passion to promote cultural awareness through arts, music, and dance for the East Indian Community.
We are all volunteers and all proceeds from this event will help ErinOak a local charity, that needs funding. We all feel its important for us to not only think about our community but also the local community we live in and from time to time should give back to such places, i.e., the neighbourhood your live in, etc.
There aren't many local desi theatre shows that I've personally seen being advertised or promoted. It's always international talent. We saw this as another opportunity to help the local actors, actresses, and even dancers to take part. Even though they may not be professional and this play does strive for community involvement ,they receive a chance to be a part of something that helps not only cd's but Canadians and our local neighbourhood.
It been a tough challenge to co-ordinate everything especially with the amount of people on board our total performers are well above 100 people. so its definitely been a challenge organizing and putting it together. But generally, the volunteers that have stepped forward and the support others have given both financially and mentally have helped take us thus far.
Thank for the question, do ask if anyone has more and it would great if you could come out and see this venture, it all started about 1 and 1. 1/2 years ago, and will finally take stage on September, 9th 2006. http://www.ravi-play.ca" rel="nofollow">LINK <<-- for more info!
thanks,
Ravi,
This does sound like a great initiative, especially considering the originality of the play and charity angle. We definately need more stuff like this within the desi community and I can't think of a better way to promote cultural awareness.
All the best to you and your team of volunteers!!
