My VIP suitcase's handle and other side clip were broken. I would llike to find the information to get it repaired.
It would be the best for you to throw your VIP suitcase and get a new one from Canada.
There are no commercial shops to get it repaired in the GTA and you get good deals on suitcases in Sears outlet stores/ Liquidation shops.
OTOH, You could try to take it to India and get it repaired from there. Airlines do allow suitcases without handles but it is in your best interest to see that it will travel the distance without the side clip/ lock and not open mid air / during luggage handling by airport staff.
All the best with your VIP suitcase. These suitcases (also Aristrocrat) were a craze in India in the 70's 80's and till the mid 90's.
I still own 2 VIP suitcases purchased in Saravana Stores of Chennai in 2002 for Rs. 1500 each. When i went to India in Jan . 2003 the airport staff broke one suitcase and hence when i went to again buy it in the same store it was Rs. 2000.
