I am a middle-level executive in accounting, finance and admin, semi-qualified management accountant with 16 years exp in Finance. I do know that I will have to start off at entry-level before I can prove myself with enough Canadian experience. How much salary can I expect to start with?I see that there are quite a few temp jobs that are advertised. Does it help starting there.Any guidance on this issue is most welcome

"I do know that I will have to start off at entry-level before I can prove myself with enough Canadian experience"

Not necessarily. It depends on how you approach the market, my suggestion would be for you to take your own approach and not rely on other people's experience. Rather, use your own independent thinking to guide you. It is a new country, so keep your mind open and expect things to be different.

I know of many who had no problem getting a job with their Indian experience. Read the suggestions of BlueLobster and Garvo in the labour jobs thread. They have given very good advise.

Many immigrants have not got jobs for various reasons...including the oft mentioned Canadian Experience. Then again, many have not had these problems. Though, I think that, the majority of people (atleast going by previous posts) have had difficulty in the job market initially. There are exceptions of course and ideally one should strive to be the exception. Opinions are mostly based on personal experiences and thats why there are a lot of posts which may be construed as negative and discouraging to newcomers. Since its better to be positive, the best piece of advice for newcomers may well be contained in the last post.
The problem may also be that once people are sucessfull in settling down they sort of 'move on' and are not interested in sharing their positive experiences.
That aside, It maybe helpful to inform people about the major differences, between India/Pakistan etc and Canada, when it comes to hiring practices, interview process, expectations from candidates at time of interview and other related issues. Any takers?

Sujata,
Since you know many who have not had any problems getting jobs with their indian experience would it be possible for you to invite them to share their positive experiences and insights and thus help prospective/new/struggling immigrants? When one does not hear many such stories the tendency is to believe in whatever else is available.

Mississauga is better than Brampton because of public transporation and job opps. In the afternoon, most of the Brampton buses run every half hour. I do not know if it will be better than Toronto for your field. Toronto should also be good choice.
