Hello fellow Cd's,

This is a :announce: alert to stay away from  Transunion(a credit history reporting agency).

Here's my experience with them:
In continuation of our Home search, i decided to get my credit report score.

Mind you, there are two popular agencies in canada which do this. One being Equifax which advertises it service at 24$ and Transunion at 14$.
Naturally, i opted for Transunion and signed up for their report by giving my credit card on their website.
Guess what?? The bill came to 30$ instead of 14$. when i ask them they say credit report analysis is a part of the fee.
who needs a shi*ty analysis when my bank gives it to me free??? :madgo:
Moreover, this analysis asks me to list out my assets, income and debt in detail so that they can tell me how much money i have!!:cuss:
All in all,:nono: watch out when dealing with their services.

just my 0.89$ cents(in US$)

I prefer Equifax over the Trans Union. Most of the lenders and banks also report to Equifax as it is the odest credit reporting company in Canada.

It seems when you were ordering the Credit Report online from Trans Union, you did not uncheck the 2 options which are there by default and you ended up paying twice the amount.

You certainly did not need that as your bank also gave that to you for free. Did the bank give you your credit score and a copy of the report too?

Any ways, now you have the credit report, the score, the score analysis and the debt analysis which will help you decide to take the best course of action.

I hope your bank also offering you to help you make your mortgage tax deductible by using 'Smith Manoeuvre' which can get you free income tax refunds from CRA for life while paying the mortgage down and help you increase your net worth as well.

Hi Pramod,

Thats what happened.. It looks like the TransUnion company deliberately put those 2 options in such a way that the last row seems like the sum of these two.

Yes, I got a score of 776 and hopefully the bank should be able to take it from there..

Thanks again,

You can get your credit report for FREE by mail from Equifax. Credit agencies are obliged by law to reveal an individual's credit report when requested. Of course, they do not want you to know that you can get it for free, so they hide this option in some obscure part of their website and highlight the paid, on-line report.

The only catch is that there is no analysis or credit score and that you have to mail in the request and they would mail your credit report back in 2 weeks time.

Remember to sign and date the form at the bottom. (Another devious way of making this inconspicous, so one overlooks it)

Here is the link for the credit request form -
