(You have lived with desi's only in USA and Canada. Many in USA / Canada are IT professionals / Professionals and hence they might have been to your frequency. But I have lived in Canada with Science / arts graduates and they have tried and sometimes exploited me. You could have read my experiences with those type of guys in my previous thread. I have lived with people who donot help to cook, clean toilets, clean the house, wash dishes etc... In Canada, most of the desi's that i have seen are very arrogant and hence i try to avoid desi's in the GTA. Even in the Chinese shops , Desi's tend to be arrogant with fellow desi's. Everywhere i go , i have seen desi's frowning when seeing another desi with a look as if the other desi is a competition to him. I also have seen Desi's / sri lankans stealing in Walmart and in a dollar store. In Walmart, it was opening a box of Diapers and putting 3 or 4 in the handbag and applying sun screen cream from a to be sold product. In the dollar store, I have seen a Desi opening a packet of hair bands and putting one in her hair.
These are just my views, experiences and not a general / blanket statement.
Experience will vary between desi's...TK)

Why you always see desi stealing or being arrogant. I have seen whites and black being arrogant with each other and with desis in malls. I have seen one white guy disposing his old shoes in the box and walked away in new shoes out of walmart. No one could catch him as he walked along with a lady pushing cart out. I have seen a black women opening a box of energy bar, took one and threw the rest in the shelve back. I have seen a white woman picking up crossant box at Costco, opened it and gave it to her children sitting in cart. She was ahead of me in cash counter and I did not see that box in the cart there which means she threw it away and did not pay. How much friends you have who are non-desi.

I wonder why we "desis" tend to forget all the rules and manners acquired in Canada,

Three pages of replies and no one pointed this out?! Are you trying to say that we desis have learnt manners only after coming to Canada and that all indians are junglees?

I have seen a number of "well mannered" goras behave worse then what you have seen. I have seen goras throw tim hortons coffee cups in the TTC subway train, I have seen goras read a news paper and throw it on the seats, I have seen goras sit with their legs stretched out on the seats while people stand, I have seen gora's throw banana skins in a elevator before he exits, I have been stuck for a good 20 mins behind a slow moving vehicle driven by the "well mannered expert" gora drivers on the expresssway, (70 kmh in the overtaking lane!) i can also list out hundreds of examples of bad gora behavior but unfortunately not many indians notice the bad attitude or behavior from them. Is it cuz we believe that gora's are above such things and are always correct and most well mannered?

AS for poor customer service of indian consulate. Again, are we saying that only Indians give poor customer service? Ever tried to get a issue resolved with Bell, for example?

I agree. Let's not single out our own community for ridicule. But yes, we can do better.

In TK's example at IKEA, we can easily substitute a Chinese or Caucasian or any other community in the place of this South Indian family.

I once had the experience of a Desi (it was a South Indian, a Telugu, looking at his name) taking the trouble to leave a note on my car when he had only very slightly hit the rear when parking, causing a very mild scratch, hardly noticeable at all. There was no one nearby, and I wouldn't have noticed this scratch if not for the note. Nevertheless, he had left the note with his name and phone number. I just called him to thank him and assured him that there was no damage done.

I have also had the experience of losing a wheel hub-cap once when parking in a 'Hispanic' area in New Jersey, and getting my car broken into in a 'White' area in Vancouver, in spite of a newly installed car alarm! These don't mean that one particular group or community is good and another bad. Just individual experiences.

I see Chinese and Whites (as well as Desis) jaywalking (sometimes running along with a child when there are cars speeding by) in a busy road here all the time, too lazy to walk a few yards for the signal.
