I'm not trying to defend/oppose your statement.

The words like Pickle, Culture are all Dynamic and not static. It means that they are all evolving.

Some cultures move forward, some move backward(Again Perception). The example you've mentioned is on the same lines. When we look at Central Asia/Middle East like Iran, was one of the centres of cultural evolution from way back BC times till Shah of Iran's period. Check where it is now ?.

The reason you are seeing this(it did exist before) is that the Indian News Media has become very Aggressive & dynamic. If you have access to NDTV 24/7 or ZEE news you'll know. In a recent news report, ZEE News showed all the establishments of Dawood in Karachi, even long shots of his house in Karachi the only thing they did not do was presenting the address or his personal telephone number. If you watch local news on TV from India the current trend is that there are plenty of free lance reporters walking around India with a video camera. They sell their stories on a piece basis.

Do you know there was a big raid in one of the suburbs of Toronto yesterday for drugs and prostitution and about 150 people were arrested yesterday. It did not make the headlines.

I can add more spice to your posting & if you have lived in Mumbai you would note that there is some important piece of information missing from this story:

Rampant trafficking in women, children in state
Saturday June 24 2006 00:00 IST
HYDERABAD: The state was proud of the fact that 23 per cent of world's IT professionals are from Andhra Pradesh. So far so good. A distressing and alarming news, however, is that about 23 per cent of women and children exploited for commercial sex work in the country are from Andhra Pradesh.

Trafficking in women, minor girls and children for commercial sexual work has emerged as one of the most formidable challenges of the new millennium. The state police have conducted five workshops to sensitise the police personnel to the problem with a view to curbing the menace.

In a study conducted for National Human Rights Commission, Anti Human Trafficking coordinator of UNODC P M Nair found that only 6.6 per cent of police officers in the country are aware of the problem of trafficking in women, minor girls and children.

Now AP police have taken another initiative by organising a two-day ‘Training of Trainers' workshop on ‘Anti-human trafficking' by inviting all the district police training principals and prosecutors with the involvement of NGOs.

AP Police Academy (APPA) and Crime Investigation Department (CID) have formulated an action plan in association with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crimes (UNODC) to empower the entire police personnel in the state on the issue of trafficking.

In this connection, Director General of Police (Law and Order) P V Naidu said one third of the girls rescued from trafficking were suffering from AIDS.

Unless trafficking is checked, he said it would not be possible to put an end to the spread of HIV/AIDS, he observed. It is the ‘will' that is needed among police personnel to tackle the problem, he said.

APPA director C N Gopinatha Reddy said they had decided to include trafficking as part of the syllabus at all the levels of police training in the state.

Anti-Trafficking Police Stations

Additional DGP (CID) M Ratan said as part of their action plan they have proposed the government to establish 10 anti-trafficking police stations in the state. This involves an annual budgetary provision of Rs 3.5 crore.

Meanwhile, UNODC accepted to provide necessary resources to start three such stations at Hyderabad, Anantapur and Eluru. These stations are likely to be started by August 1.

UNODC is also ready to provide resource persons, training materials and other inputs to empower the police in the state on trafficking.

The whole area was cordoned off, and when I was driving through with my family , all the cars including ours were stopped by police and questioned. I asked the police woman the reason, and this was the reason given to me by her.

What you have just narrated does strike one as being improbable given that a recent operation that picked up 36 people in Montreal’s suburbs made national headlines during the last week. What makes it all the more improbable is the fact that when 150 people are arrested, they have to be produced in court, and that’s unlikely to get past the attention of the media.

LATE EDIT: I'll correct myself in regards to the improbability. The story is in the media though.......

That being said, you seem to frequent some pretty questionable parts of the city, what with having ‘police cordoning off the entire area and arresting 150 people’ and ‘massage parlours at every street corner’ (which you apparently know for certain provide services in addition to a routine massage).

1.If you read my post it clearly mentions family.

2.I anticipated this from your question, and hence I was very clear in giving the facts clearly.

3.I know many of us get to take off in a tangent.

4.A humble request to you, do not take off on the person who writes it but what is being written.

5.I cannot change myself just like you would not based on what you have written before.

6.I do not want to write more on this because, I've learnt from the past on CD what words/issues would trigger a response from whom. Incidentally I had PM a few fellow CD's about how you would respond to my post, and you did it exactly as I expected. May be I can bet on your responses and make some money.

7.Thanks again for standing by your roots, like I stick to mine.

Good Luck & God Bless !
