So beating Duncan to this post....what forms of ragging did you guyz and gals face in Indian universities ? I had a fair share of ragging when I joined college for my B.Tech degree.

I remember, two distinct things...
IN Andhra Pradesh, ragging was along caste lines !.... However, "technically" being a non-telugu I escaped the brunt of that ragging.

I was however made to dress up like Tarzan (yeah in Chaddis ) ...and made to yell out ..."AaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaMuuuuuuuuuuullllllll" . A Pg-13 version of the same sequence was done outside the hostel ( I was a day-scholar ) when I was made to climb trees and shout again....

I told a (junior) girl that her face was like a pig and also like a rabis dog and she laughed for that.
I also at one time "operated a junior boy" with a sets square as a knife in front of girls. I removed his shirt and then moved the sets square along his tummy as if i was operating.
When i was ragged we had the "Continuous slapping sessions" in which 10 boys will form a circle and slap the one next to him and this will go on in the circle. The seniors will shout "harder" and by the time the 10th. round of slap came, it would really be painful.
Since we used the t-square, there would be often requests for us to fight each other with it like a sword. Some T-Squares got broken and it was Rs. 120 (1989)
Some minor ragging was singing "Jana gana mana" which was mostly directed at girls by boys.
There was also an instance in which my classmate was taken to thehostel and made to awake a short tempered guy who was taking his nap. Naturally he was slapped 4 or 5 times in the face for it.
The REC-Trichy salute was famous but not as famous as what the other REC's would have done. REC Trichy was a very conservative REC. We will wait for Charlie to post his side of this story.
I was a Day sci. and in the hostels some very vulgur ragging took place which i am not going to share in public. if some one likes to know this , please PM or Email me.

I am a Gents and not a Ladies.

I did my B.Eng from PEC, Chandigarh(2005) where ragging was fairly restricted but we had some of our ragging fun though I never got ragged (seniors were scared of me ). In my final yr we made our juniors to propose to girls, ask out a girl in front of her boy friend. We would make them stand in front of a light bulb and ask them to blow it out. AFA hostels are concerned, real ragging took place there

I remember the bucket torture ...where they cover head with bucket and then drum it ......was a horrible experience
I hated most was the double meaning questions........and enjoyed the 90 deg salute all junior in line have to offer while seniors passed along, that was very much in good spirit. I did face a hell lot of physical ragging but never practiced one on anybody .....poor helpless freshers
