I personally know cases where 'employment agencies' charge hundreds of dollars and promise you an interview. Now, the scam is that these are dummy interviews with dummy companies or they have collaborators within certian organizations who would conduct an interview with you, when no such position exists.
For example, the agency directs you to a company and asks you to meet Mr X who is the hiring manager. You land up for the interview, ask for Mr.X and are "interviewed" by him. After a few days, the agency tells you that you were not selected. Nobody in the company (if it is genuine) is any wiser,as HR is not involved. Mr.X pockets fifty bucks for his 30 minutes and the candidate has lost a few hundred. After 2-3 such interviews, the agency tells you that you are unemployable and asks you to upgrade your technical/academic qualifications.
