A person claiming to be the lawyer and spokesperson of underworld don Dawood Ibrahim on Sunday night said Dawood was ready to face trial in India if he was given a "fair hearing". Asked what was the problem for Dawood in facing trial in India, he said, "No one has ever said 'no' to it. If you hold a fair hearing, we are ready to face the trial. But you know how Indian police obtain evidence. People go healthy but come out unhealthy. There is no rule of law in India". Identified as Meraj, the spokesperson told a TV channel over phone reportedly from London that Dawood was ready to face trial in a third country. The spokesman denied the accusations that either Dawood Ibrahim or any of his gang member was involved in any terrorists activities, including 1993 Mumbai blasts and murder of cassette king Gulshan Kumar in 1997. "We categorically deny all the accusations. We have nothing to do with it (Mumbai blasts)," Meraz said. "The person involved is right now in India, behind the bar in Mumbai facing the trial," the spokesman added, apparently referring to extradited gangster Abu Salem. Asked about the Interpol red corner notice against Dawood, his name figuring America's list of terrorists and India declaring him as most wanted terrorist, Meraz said, "These were mere accusations". -"Hindustan Times"
