This site is really shaping up nicely. Articles posted here are fun to read and does contain some good information. I was thinking of posting an article for long and here is my small effort to keep the ball rolling. I guess many of you might already be aware of this, but let me put this for new comers and for people like me who are always in look out to make things easier & simple by understanding the system.

When I came in, I was bit surprised by the house numbering system here. Odd Numbered House on one side and Even on Other. It surely makes life easier, just by knowing that I have to look only one side of the road to search. Now let’s go beyond this and a bit more in depth.

Younge Street divides GTA in EAST & WEST. Younge Street is the reference point. So the Numbers starts from there. The numbers are in Ascending Order as you go EAST or WEST – ofcourse staring from Younge (Number 1 is closest to Younge in either direction). And as you move on, you’ll find that EVEN number is on your LEFT.

When you are traveling from South to North, you will see Even Numbers on your LEFT Hand Side and Numbers are Increasing.

Lets put it with Example.

You have started from Keel on Lawrence Ave W. As you move on, Numbers will Decrease. Once you cross Younge, Numbers will start Increasing on Lawrence Ave E. As Simple As That.

You are standing on Markham – Lawrence Intersection and you want to reach 3482 – Lawrence Ave E & you don’t know which direction to proceed. East of Markham or West of Markham? Now you noticed Cedarbrae Mall, which is 3495 - Lawrence Ave E. So with the system I told you, 3482 – Lawrence must be West of Markham and as you would be going towards Younge, it would be on your RIGHT. Isn’t it?

Try to put this for South-North. Here you have to remember that South is the reference point … Number 1 is South Most. In previous case, Number 1 was Closest to Younge.

This is True for all roads in GTA, whether it crosses the Younge or not … you just need to know, East – West of Younge & South – North. But there are roads, which runs in all directions, & there are roads, which forms circle. I can’t say about that … just use your Common Sense !!!
