I have a couple of questions which I hope you can answer:
- Is it necessary to get a letter from the Bank which states the amount of money deposited. This letter I can get at $ 15 charge. However I do think that just the bank statement should help.
- Should the invitation be from myself alone or would it be better if my spouse and I send a joint invitation, which shows that our joint income is enough to support the visit of my parents.
Please advise

Search CD. There is a sample letter here. That's what I did when my parents came and that's how I came to know abt CD.

Many people advise for notorization, according to me it is unnecessary. When I called my father, I only sent a letter signed by both me and my wife, copy of my income tax return. They high commission asked for copy income tax return of my wife which I sent by fax (to my father and he mailed to them) and they mailed the passport with Visa to my father.
Like said by Desi in Ottawa. Don't over do anything. Don't come up with many reasons for calling them. You are in Canada and they are coming to visit you and family should be a good reason. The income tax return has your SIN printed and I assume they have access to all your information based on that, so they do not need your bank statements etc. In case you are calling them before filing first return you can send the pay stub or T4.
Right now they are concern about having elderly people visiting Canada and buying a health insurance before applying for Visa can help.
