Saturn is a yoga karaka (a planet having special power to raise one in life) for Libra and Taurus ascendants by owning a kendra and a trikona.
Sade Sati: When Saturn is transiting through the 12th, 1st, and 2nd house from the natal moon, this is termed Sade-sati. “Sade-sati” literally means 7 ½ years, which means that Saturn naturally takes 2 ½ years in its transit from one house to another house. This transit is considered particularly important in Vedic Astrology because this transit is supposed to indicate difficult results either to the native or the native’s close relatives. When Sade-sati occurs for Taurus, Libra, Capricorn, and Aquarius moon signs as well, the Sade-sati may not give them as much negative results. Its evil influence is reduced to a great degree in these circumstances. This is because Saturn rules Capricorn and Aquarius and Libra and Taurus are ruled by Venus; who is a friend of Saturn. Natives with Capricorn, Aquarius, Taurus or Libra lagna may experience hardship during Sade-sati, but may emerge unharmed because of a reduction in its usual evil influence.

What I have been let to believe is sadesati is a cyclic process. Cycle repeats every 21 years (I guess). And sadesati in itself is a cycle. Like peacock says, it takes 2 1/2 years for the planetary arrangement to move from one position to another. My Q is, 2 1/2 periods of 7 1/2, what effects do they have on individual and family.
Like veeru says, Aquarius (that is me according to Solar System) is a friendly planet with saturn and has lesser effect on bearer of these planets. I have heard that when saturn leaves it offers riches and gifts for staying in respective horoscope. It that true.
Recommend some good books easy to read available on this topic @ Toronto library

I would like to add two things about Shani here:
1. Shani is the only planet which works on the theory: "As you sow, so shall you reap". And noone can stop Shani to give you results based on ur deeds.
2. Shani delays but never denies. Incase you deserve something, you will get it sooner or later.

So all those fortunate ones whom Shani is giving good results did very good deeds in previous births and all those whom Shani is disturbing should start doing good karam from now.

Well, then I should have bought some lottery tickets.
In 2004 I went to a casino first time in my life and won some good money. I also won in some small raffles recently.
