Hi ,
I had read somewhere on various forums about possibility of applying for coop/intern jobs in ur field of expertise[possibly without pay], thereby gaining valuable Canadian experience which can be used later to get a paid job in the same field.
Was curious to know how can one apply for these jobs or find out about it.
Secondly, Is this option only with government jobs or with private companies too?
Are there particular locations within Canada to get these? If yes, would like to know that as well.
Plus having U.S experience, would that help in getting a job without Canadian experience?
Would appreciate responses from all the seniors.
Thanks
Here is one.
http://www.yorkdale.net/main/yorkdale_coop_programs.htm
This is in Toronto.
One thing about this I have heard is that the earlier in your stay in Canada you do this the better. There may actually be a time limit for newer immigrants to get into these programs. You cant decide 5 years after coming to canada that you want to get into a co-op opportunity.
Someone correct me if I am wrong.

I once made a mistake, but I was wrong about it.
Hi,
Are there any programs like this in British Columbia?
Thanks.

>>>>I am under the impression that the coop jobs are for students. That's what I have seen so far as I hire coops for couple of months. Also check out a program for someone below 30, there is some sort of intern/coop stuff. Not sure how it works. I sent someone to check it out, turned out that he was 36. That idiot never told me his age before. I was embarassed when I came to know abt it.

>>>In govt. u are paid, around $14-15/hour

Hi ,
I am in I.T Computers [System Administration] and age of 32.
Why would age matter for coop/intern positions?
You are a sysadmin, then why do you want to do coop? What challenge are you facing in finding a sysadmin job? Plenty around.

Thanks for the responses.
Looking for coop to diversify in other fields outside of just doing sysadmin to be better marketable.
Secondly, which areas/locations have better sysadmin opportunities?
Also , do these companies not look for Canadian experience?
