Think bigger. Instead of saving $2/ you could have spent this time in other productive work.
Think of Earning more then to save money.

My opinion....

I do not want to hijack this thread, but why do many people go inside the store to pay for only gas, most of them have credit cards and they can pay at the pump..it just wastes so much time

1 minute of brisk walk boosts metabolism and so beneficial for health and you cannot do any productive work in this short time. Drive thru, paying at the pumps etc are the main reason people have become lazy. Do not miss a chance to get up from your seat. This always helps.

Coming back to the main thread. Don't you think that if price of petrol increases it will be environmental friendly as less people will drive and use public transportation, more people will do car pooling. Nobody cares if resources are cheap. e.g. only African people and some part of India also can understand how precious water is.

When you pay at the pump, the vendor locks your credit card for about $200 no matter how much use really pump (could be just $20) and then release the funds after 2-3 business days.
It would affect if some one doesn't have much balance left in the credit card, then their choice is to walk-in and just pay what they pumped.

I used to feel the same way initially esp when I am in a hurry...

Saving $ is good as long one understands how much they spent to save that $, whether it may be tangible (gas spent idling) or intangible (perosnal time).

Saving does'nt make you rich , Earning does !

Here is incident from today where my week's saving and collecting went ...
Today I took off to office , with my wife's car keys in my coat and a spare one in my bag. She was left at home with Car but no keys. She spent 35$ s on taxi to reach her office and I will leave early from mine to go home first, drive to day care to pick my son and then to her office to pick her up.

One inadvertant mistake and all your standing in line, being early bird etc etc. goes for a toss...
If I would have stood in line yesterday to save those 2$s on gas, I would have cursed this day even more ! you know why ? bcs that gas filled car would have been still on my driveway !!

I can still afford to laugh at myself ! :-)
