Hope is right.
If you feel brave and love adventure option 1 is good.
If you are feeling uncertain, follow option 2.
God will ensure that you are Ok, whatever you decide.
On the side, you can check this one out,
in Canada BDS seems a better option than MBBS.
Advantages of BDS(Dental):
No emergencies.
Planned appointments,
Good family life.
0% unemployment
High salaries
Less studies.
Easier admission
Hi Hope and LD,
Thanks again for your encouraging advises.
I made up my mind to stay alone with children in Toronto.
We expect visa stamping by mid of Dec, 2005. I understand schools in Toronto remain closed for couple of weeks for Christmas holidays.
Is it worth moving at the peak time of winter? Advantage is six month schooling in Toronto. Disadvantage is difficulty in coping up with severe winter.
Alternative is - My son completes IX std by April, 06, and then move to Toronto sometime in July, 06.
Could you plesae suggest best option from the schooling point of view?
Regards,
Usha
If you decide to move, better let you son finish his school year, if you have time to immigrate. In this way, atleast he has a chance to get credit for some of the classes he has completed. That way he may not have to take some classes again. Don't forget to get sealed transcripts before you leave. Also check whether you need Immunization Records. Because, for US schools, till you are 18 you need Immunization records for school/college admission.
If you are never used to cold climate, you have no idea how cold and depressing it can get. Anyway, after some time you may find your place in India as hot, whenever you go back. But, initially it is going to be hard in the winter.
Come by May, before the Airfares go up for the summer. Also, during summer, chances of getting a summer job is better.
Are you from Chennai?

usha i think high school students have an advantage here to get into their own universities. Dont forget even if the job scene is not that great in canada , the degrees in thE US are recognized.
i came from india with a 12th PCB average of 73%, certainly not great just average and had a hard time in getting the major of my choice in university. I think the high school system here is very easy and your kids will do well and get into the best universities.
but be warned in north america it takes 8 years to complete medical. 4 for your undergrad and minimum 4 for med school.
so take a step with a cool balanced mind.
Hi Hope and Roy86,
Thanks for your inputs. We are from A.P.
As Hope suggested, we shall move to Canada next summer after our son finishes his IX standard.
Roy, I understand from websites, three years university degree ( Not four years) is sufficient for admission to Medical Schools. This is a discouraging factor to study medicne in Canada.
I understand Canada & USA do not recognize the medical degree from India. Some of my friend's daughters (Passed MBBS in India) married to US settled boys are preparing to pass some additional exams to get their degrees recognized at par with US degrees.
Getting medical seat in India is not an easy task. We may have pay atleast 25 lakhs if he does not get seat in merit. We can excersise the option of sending to Indian medical school after he finsihes 12 Standard in Canada.
I request Indian parents in Canada, who sent their children to Medical schools in Canada or in India to suggest the best option.
Regards,
Usha
hi,
It is not necessary that you have to shell out 25lacs for getting admission in a medical college in india. recently one of my cousin got admission in BDS though she not got very high rank in CBSE Med.Entrance Exam. annual expenses will be around Rs.30,000 per annuam. Its not so tough as it look .just need regular and sincere preparation for about one or two years.

hi,
its not easy to pass local exams in canada for a foreign trained doctor. that is long process . in canada i seen a qualified indian dentist applying for receptionist job in a dentist's clinic.
it would be rather better if you try to get your kid admission in canadian medical college instead of sending him india for studying medicine.
