Hi Guys,
I received a letter from the Canadian consulate that I should take an English test specified by them since they feel that my English didn't meet their requirements. This seems ridiculous to me as i have a MS degree from US and i did sent them original transcripts as well. Hence, i wanted to know if anyone else here did receive that letter and what was his/her action?
Can you contest their decision?
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
you can take a toefle exam or go to their wbsite and they have other places you can get tested which they approve off. just do it Also write a hand written letter explaining your qualifications and showing how fluent you are in the language.
You have to take IELTS as Toefl is not accepted by Canadian immigration.

Hi thanks Monk.
But would u know wht kind of IELTS test should we take.?
For immigration you have to take "General Training" IELTS test (and NOT "Academic" IELTS test)
Link is:
http://www.ielts.org/
It will cost you about 2 months in time, registering, appearing, receipt of result, mailing of result to CIC. They would require original copy of IELTS result. Keep a copy for your reference.
If you get 7.5 band in average ( 9 is maximum) you are likely to get 16 points for English (First) language out of 16.
If you get 6 Band you are likely to get only 4 points out of 16.
So Beware of Ides of March.
Please DO prepare seriously for the test, as it is critical and it is no joke.
Not that English is tough, there are googlies.
So DO NOT be over confident, prepare thoroughly and you will get 7.5
Almost no one gets 8 or 9, maybe it is policy matter, like First Division in Delhi University Arts course - very rare.
It is just routine documentation stuff, so do not be offended. The CIC officer is just looking for an excuse to give you 16 points out of 16.
Thanks LD,
So "General Training" IELTS test includes General Training Reading and writing ?
Thanks.
It contains four components:
1. Reading
2. Writing
3. Listening
4. Speaking
And you have to get 7.5 or more in ALL of them,
or 7.5 average with NO score less than 7.
Tip: Prepare well! DO NOT take it for granted. You are good but marking is tricky.
Best of luck.
