And yes, making trafic stops just to ensure everything is OK is their duty as well, at the same time they are REQUIRED to be polite with the drivers they pull over.

I’ve have been driving in the city for more than 2 years now, and have never been pulled over ‘just to check that everything is ok’. A fair amount of that driving has been in the Peel region. I have family that has lived in the city for over 20 years and they have never been pulled over either ‘just to check that everything is ok’. I have been pulled over for speeding though, and I don’t think I had an expectation that the officer would ‘mollycoddle’ me.

If you are being pulled over frequently ‘just to check that everything is ok’ chances are you are doing something to ‘arouse’ suspicion – ever considered that possibility? - or are you getting pulled over frequently for traffic violations?

Do I do anything to arouse suspicion......well, I certainly don't stick my head out of the window and shout 'get me if you can' while I'm driving...:)

And I don't expect him to 'mollycoddle' me, but I do expect him to be a little polite specially when I greet him with..How you doing officer? considering the fact that he is a man in uniform who works towards protecting me and the community.

Thinking one, I'm not a turban clad sikh. But I've overheard people referring to turban wearing people as 'Towel Heads', I don't know if people still need to be educated about a turban specially with a strong sikh population in the GTA.

He gets paid for it...he didn't do you a favor, he was just doing his duty
(though his help is highly appreciated). And not to mention that he gets paid by the taxes you and me pay(atleast I do )

------------------------------------

True...the cops did their job and so did the cop(S) who pulled you over in Peel region. Amazing how the tax dollars work. Anyways, my point was, everybody has negative experiences, you are not alone. I am sure you have had several positive experiences too to make up for it.

No offence while assuming so:

1. Dimple is a woman, who was offered help by officers
------------------------------------------------------

Nope, I am a male. Dimple is the name of one of my cat and the cat is a female...:) and as someone noted, I am also as brown as I can be :)

PS - Dimple was born and adopted in 2001, hence dimple2001.

Knowing Manjeets posts...i wouldnt count on it. He's pretty much narrowed down the problem to 'Canada' itself(something or everything about it)...fortunately for him, he's leaving this place in oct.

On a more serious note, why do you guys wanna close your eyes on racism in Canada, its so prevalent and has even been proved so many times. Is it a scary thing to admit the existence of or are we better of ignoring it?

i'm convinced it exists. It even exists amongst my relatives...in india and canada. Has it affected me personally...No(although it may or may not have played a factor at some time or the other...unknown to me, I'm not losing sleep over that).

see above. If you are inferring that what happens to you on a regular basis is racism...we do not have to agree with your perception(though it maybe correct). If you are convinced it IS racism...make a note of the officer name/time/place and build your case...as so many have. One way to make a difference is to take a stand( and not just on cd :D )

I know of a guy who landed with me in year 2000. He was in the US by year 2001 and me by 2002. Both of us have similar experiences like those of Manjeet to share.A few months course in a US university made me a licensed professional in my field whereas Canada still wont recognise my Indian qualification or US study & experience worth anything. Is there any doubt that Canada is not a garbage, racist , xenophobe frozen wasteland ?
