Hi guys,

Need a feedback for my situation. I was in usa for 3 years first on F-1 VISA and then ON H1B Visa. then came to canada and now i'm about to get my passport. If I apply for TN visa next month will there be any problems in getting one.

thanks

Taxguy !
You will be just fine as long as you meet the requirements for TN ..

You should technically have the easiest way out as your profile has already been cleared for 2 earlier visas. (:-))

You have undergone labour certification and your credentials have been assessed involving a more rigorous process. The H1s will cost about $5500 from 2009 onwards if I am not mistaken.

The TN1 costs about $56 - $100 right now.

I have gone through F1,J1,B1,H1 already.

I remember my H1 stamping in Toronto last year that I did not use. I am guessing that day there was nobody else except me for an H1.The consular officer seemed like a gentleman and his only relevant question was

"How come you studied mechanical engineering and ended up at this position (DB analyst)" and I enjoyed telling him my life and career experiences and how it evolved in about 60 seconds.

He asked me about my F1 experiences in general as a student.

Nothing H1 was discussed.

6 months ago I was waiting for TN Visa at Toronto Airport. There were 3 IT guys were rejected. They carried documentation on a 1" binder.

My company gave me a one page letter and with my P.Eng. Card, I got TN visa valid for 3 years and took me exactly 7 minuted to complete the process.

It depends on your qualification and the company sponsoring you.

At Toronto another person from my company without P.Eng was refused but was given at Calgary Airport

There's exactly the problem - 1" binder. Not that those 3 did anything wrong (since I have no idea), but when you have to justify your application in so many words, it really makes you wonder, doesn't it?

A straight forward application will have a detailed employment offer and that should do besides the originals you need to carry.

I recently applied and sucessfully received 3 year TN at the Detroit-Windsor Tunnel POE for the occupation of Engineer. The documents I had were Employer TN letter, brochure/flyer about the company, and photo copies of my degree and passport page plus the originals of passport and degree certificate.

The officer reviewed only the offer letter and the degree. I waited 40 minutes for an available TN officer and about 10 minutes for them to process and print out the I-94. They retained the employer letter and returned everything else.

$50 for TN and $6 for I-94 (USD). Payable in cash or credit.
