Hi everyone..,
I am joining a mentorship program and I was wondering if any of you could share your experiences with a mentorship program? What you liked? What you didnt like? etc..
Thanks
I was the first one to register for this program when they started in the York region. However had to wait a few months since the persons responsible for running the program were not properly informed before the program was launched. Finally after a wait of more than 4 months, I was called for a meeting and interview kind of a thing and then asked to wait again- which I did for more than two months.
Finally, one fine day I was called to attend the orientation of mantees and meeting with mentors. Two days before the schedueled meeting, I was informed that since I have not completed one form, I cannot attend the meeting unless I fill it up immediately. For some unknown reason they had forgotton to present that form to me and the blame was on me that I had not filled it up!!!!
Anyway, it was filled up in a telephonic interview and then I made it to the meeting, to find that out of the seven mantees, 5 were Indian and one chinese and one German. They wanted to give us an orientation about the program, but seemed that they didn't know what to talk so they gave us some ice-breakers etc. just the way do in all workshops conducted by HRDC run programs. All through they kept saying that they were short of time - and not a single word was spoken about the actual program as to how long it is going to be, and things like it. Yes, like a class room situation we were asked to analyse the meaning of mentor, menteee, and role model!!!
Finally, 4 of the 7 mentors were ushered in the room, since the other 3 could not make it. Out of the 4, 3 seemed to be wanting us to be mentors for them. We were asked to meet our mentors and though the original program was to spend about 1 hr with them, due to time constrains, we actually got only 10 mintures or so, during which the ladies came to my room three times - two just to give a friendly reminder that we were running out of time, and the third time to announce that they were going to shut off the lights!
That was almost 4 weeks ago, and I am still waiting for my mentor to fix out first meeting (which was supposed to be on 10th June - yesterday, but there has been no call for me)
So that's my experience till date.
Might keep you updated if anything worthwhile happens.
