You mentioned that you immigrated in April 2003, and struggled for around 6 months or so. Does that mean you got an IT job around Oct/Nov 2003 ? or did you get the jov recently.

Since this your first job in your related field, IMO the salary is good for a start. I'd suggest you work with this firm for atleast a few months and get some good (Canadian) experience. That way it'll be easy for you to make a switch. Hamilton being a small place your cost of living should be low. Subsequently you could look at moving back to Toronto.

My 2 cents...

Dear Wham,

How do u know that many IT professionals in GTA make $80-$100k? Do u know how much experience they have and where they worked before? Where they studied (educational background, etc)? Are they locals or desi immigrants who came in the same year like u? And most important, have u seen their paystubs to know that they make more than $80k? I may sound rude, but I am coming straight to the point. Given your stature, people expect u to be more matured. And I am sure u r.

My suggestion would be to get some more experience and then jump over to a good consulting firm or even the Fed Govt where Oracle is used widely. More stable as compared to the private firms.

Final word: think rationally.

DIO

Hello Forum members,
I live in Toronto as i fell that it is safer for me and my daughter here and besides i am told that there are good chances for my profession in the GTA. I look to get employed in Oracle or Accenture.

I Know
I understand because my wife lived in Toronto alone for a while. although she was glad when we left GTA . She was depressed looking at the poverty among Asians and new immigrants in Toronto.

s_s,
Thanks for your concern but psycologically i feel more comfortable when i am in a crowd. Hamilton is full of creepy labourers and i donot feel safe there at all. That is one of the reasons that i am planning to find a good job in Toronto.
Hope you can understand

Come on S-S
S_S,
I am sorry that i donot agree with you. I live on Jane street and even though it is considered a run down area, i did not see any depressed desi's . On the contrary at all indian restaurants that i have been too , i have seen very happy and rich family come and spend to eat well ( most of them donot tip the waiter though- a typ. desi attitude). of course, many desi's (except IT) do labour jobs for a living but they seem cheerful on the outside. even refugees working in gas stations/tim hortons/Mac are very very happy. while money may be tight for them none of them look as if they were in poverty. in fact , after coming from a country like india with all its pan handlers/ psycho's people here (esp. the asians/ immigrants that you are talking abt.) seem law abiding and courteous.
Can other members of this forum join this discussions pls.

Getting 120 -130 even is a exception , You will get it in Big cities if you have a Green Card, and some rare skill like sap ,

Most of the times all desis end up 60 -70k bracket while on H1 , some even less !

It is good to know that you got a opening in less than 6 + months, if you read through this fourm it appears as if there are no jobs in canada ,
so may be you better to stick to what you are doing , and move when you have a good opportunity !
