That was interesting use of technology.
About a month ago, my wife's grand father died at India. He was above 80 and did his part for the world. In my in-laws extended family my wife is in Canada, one younger cousin (sister) is in USA and one more younger cousin (sister) is in Australia.
When we heard the news, it was felt that we are missing so many things. It was not possible to go to India. All of a sudden I got a message that they made an arrangement for showing the funeral process on-line. I am not so surprised, as I was telling people about this for a while, but my relatives in india made this possible. The funeral was held at Siddhapur, Gujarat, on bank of Saraswati River.
They used yahoo messenger. On the given time we logged in from Toronto. My sadhus and salies logged in from their country.
When we logged-in the camera was showing dead body of Dada. They cover entire face one by one. It was a sad feeling to see someone after a long time - and that is also a dead body! The smallest sister in Australia appeared to start crying. At the same time the other two sisters did same thing. Till now I saw people chatting and enjoying web-cams, but this was un-usual to see. I had to give consolations to salies on-line - by typing my words (we turned off voice intentionally - to get better quality from India)
The funeral started. The person operating web-cam was asking me to write something - a message for my in-laws. My brother-in-law was sitting near the computer and passing our messages to everybody there.
Overall it was great to see this on-line. Of-course they were using dial-up and it was disconnected 3-4 times during overall process, it was not at all disappointing. Siddhapur is a small town of 30,000 people some 200 kms away from Ahmedabad.
These are the guys who facilitated this. http://www.muktidham.org
Any one having this kind of experience?
