This is a perfect example of what I mean:

Look how far down they mention anything about technical experience or your degree. Right at the bottom!

You degree and technical knowledge is often the last thing employers look at. All the stuff listed first deals with your personality.

In India, degrees are looked at differently. Here in Canada they really are just pieces of paper. These days anyone can get a degree; it is the other stuff that is special.

The same of group of folks who have come here (qualified people) ...are doing quite well down south.

I am talking only of qualified people.

Have you considered there could be something wrong with this obsession with 'soft skills'? Or that there might be other reasons why Canadians are being so picky?

I think the govt should conduct detailed checks on prospective immigrants from now on. They should go through a rigorous testing to see if they have any other skills than their fake degrees. they should conduct detailled interview where a person from private industry might interview them as if its a Job interview. A failure there would mean no more Canadian PR for that person. Plain and simple.

Else I dont see this situation changing.
Till then both the immigrant and the Canadian economy will suffer. Because employers would choose not to hire people when in reality (supposed) they need them so much (as all studies point out this great need for qualified people). Work would be left undone or some local guy would be multi-tasking over-over-time to get it done..all because the company wont hire a guy because he/she doesnt have soft skills.

You make it seem as if a complete Jackass with a fake degree has landed and is demanding a job.

The office scene in India is not that dull as you think. Its full of smart people with great skills of all kinds.

Apart from that Indians (or for that matter other asians) are fairly mild mannered, unassuming people. You obviously havent met other groups of immigrants who have come here as refugees and in other non qualified categories. you will be surprised to see how they behave and speak.

If you think I am wrong, misguided, or lack perspective, that is fine.

Yes, you just might be.

I can go only on what I know and what has worked for me.

And thats not what we are talking about and this is site is about.

I'm doing well, I have a job in my field, I'm living the life that I and my parents had hoped for.

See prev point.

Should I apologize for that? No.

I dont know where you got that impression.

Don't listen to me; argue against everything I write.

Why not?
Thats what you are doing here.

But it is obvious that the things that, those who attack me, are doing isn't necessarily working, other wise you would be here complaining day after day.

Elaborate.

Life I said before, I have no vested interest in your lives; I'm just providing insight from a perspective that you might not always be able to get.

For a Canadian you are quite secretive about your profession.
What again do you do for a living?
you said before you have interviewed a "LOT" of desis.

I can stop posting if that's what you want. I'm not doing this for my benefit. I'm quite happy.

Whatever.
