Das is correct - Dont come to Canada if you dont have Job but it is a difficult decision for many
----------------------
Reasons :-
--------------------
1.Every year 1.5 million students graduate from different universities in India and 1,67,000 from Engineering colleges.
What is the future of a B.tech/MBBS in India let alone B.COm/BA .The bottom line is there are lot of educated people in India and meagre corresponding Jobs.
US produces 25,000 Engineering Graduates/yr and look at India 1,67,000.
Is there any comparison between the Oppurtunities in US and India?

2.Also,there is a big difference between the salaries earned .The wedge between salaries is too big and the no of oppurtunities are also very low because of high Population and high availability of qualified people.

Oooh! I just looooove these threads!!!

So many people, so many claims, so many arguments, so many differences, so many agreements/disagreements!!! And at the end of it all?? Nothing changes! That’s what makes it so funny.

Ok, let's see how it works.

Typical, but not always, scenario of a newbie who finds himself on this board by chance or otherwise, is like this –

1. The newbie is doing reasonably well here.

He looks around, reads a few posts, and sees a lot of whiners griping and complaining. Ego gets positive strokes on finding that he is one of the “few” successful in the crowd. Feels he is above the motley scum that surround him and that they are in dire need of guidance. He takes it upon himself to show them the path to salvation.

And so off he goes into “advice” mode, teaching the tricks of the trade to the losers, not realizing that all the tricks of the trade that he is so passionately promoting have long since been cooked and eaten over and over and over again, so much so that it has now started causing indigestion and flatulence!

2. The newbie is not doing well here.

He looks around and finds a good number of people like him griping and complaining. Ego gets sympathy strokes as he finds himself in the midst of others who like him, feel cheated and mistreated by the system.

It feels good to be in the company of people who have the same grievances and bitching to do.

Suddenly no.2 newbie runs into the no.1 newbie.

Who is this that is pointing fingers at us and sermonizing with so much insolence? Who does he think we are and and those crappy suggestions he is so blithely gabbing about, wow!! He thinks they are so so original!! Some asshat! He indeed needs to be given some running down. That will teach him to keep his head up his ass, which is where it belongs in the first place anyway.

Thus starts another long long thread. Folks sit and watch from the sidelines, enjoying the diversion.

Some drop in for a bit, throw a couple of bricks and walk out to sit and enjoy the damage.

Some more yet join the great “debate” with great fervor and enthusiasm yelling and shouting, intent on proving themselves right and the other wrong, using themselves as examples and generalizing at the same time.

Nothing is actually achieved by anyone!:D

The thread grows pretty quickly, and soon starts moving like a drunk both in content and direction before finally sinking because of its own weight.

And then a few days later, another newbie hits the board.

Rinse, lather, repeat.
:D

As to the OPs suggestion for immigrants NOT TO IMMIGRATE until they have secured a job, it would be nice if he were a little better informed. His recommendation already exists in the form of work permit based immigration visas.

There is nothing new in his “offer”. It is the same old mix of resume, good communication, importance of soft skills, yaadi, yaadi, yaada. Yawn… Ya know what I mean?

We born in Canada think of cleaners, taxi drivers, labourers the same way you thought of your servants in India.

Just that comment coming from you is sufficient evidence to prove that you are still a typical “desi” Indian inside. You ought to be ashamed talking like this.

You will never change that. Hiring someone with whom you are more familiar with makes sense. Given all other things being equal, I would always choose someone with a Canadian education over a foreign educated person. It makes sense. I understand the Canadian educated system so I would feel more comfortable with someone from it.

In terms of culture, if I hire someone from India, I have no idea how they will fit in with the rest of my staff. For instance, if I hire an Indian man, how will he deal with working with women? What if a woman is his boss or so if a black person is his boss? Indian men are not always accepting of stuff like that. I more likely hire a person who grew up here, because she would understand the Canadian business environment, they would understand how to deal with clients here. There is far less risk involved.

Das,

You need to go through the text book definition of racism. Most of your posts are intresting and made sense, but looks like deep down you practice what you deny exists in the canadian work culture and is being debated on this forum since forever now.

~M

I never denied the existence of prejudice, I just disagree that it is based on race. If it was only about race, why are they so many Eastern European immigrants in the same boat?

I agree that there is prejudice against immigrants, but that exists in every country.

I mean if I moved to Japan, I would experience the same thing, not because of my colour but because I'm not Japanese and I don't necessarily know the Japanese way.

Would I fault them? No.

The word prejudice is a whole lot of negativity in itself. Leaving all other aspects on side and talking specifically of the work environment, I cannot think of any reason why one has to be prejudiced. Giving someone the oppurtunity to work should only be based on credentials and nothing else. If you look at the resume and form an opinion even before talking to that person, doesn't it reduce the person's chances of getting the job, given that there are other people with the same credentials? A little bias can spell disaster for this person...no?

Das-FX I came across this article in CBC’s website. I am curious to know if the Canadian government or people have apologized for the “racist” incident, which was directed against Asian immigrants.

Also weren’t the Chinese immigrants subjected to a head tax? Has the Canadian government reimbursed back the money to the Chinese that was unjustly collected in the first place?

Below is an excerpt from the article

Legacy of Hate
Chinese immigrants encounter prejudice and violence as they settled in Canada
Hatred against Asians boiled over in September 1907, at a huge protest rally at Vancouver City Hall organized by the newly formed Asiatic Exclusion League. Half the city’s 30,000 people turned out for the rally wearing ribbons that said "For a White Canada."
Part of the crowd of about 7,000 men turned on Chinatown. For three days, Asian homes and businesses were vandalized.
"The mob soon left the Chinese quarter and headed in the direction of Japtown ... " the Vancouver Province reported. "The crash of glass was continual. Window after window was shattered in stores and boarding houses as the riotous gang pushed farther into the thoroughfare lined with nests of Japanese."
There were no deaths from the riots but bitter feelings simmered for decades. On July 1, 1923 Chinese immigration was banned outright. Chinese would call it "Humiliation Day." It would take another 25 years before the ban was repealed.

Thanks

Nikhil
