Greetings,

I'm a 27-year-old 1st Generation Indo-Canadian, born of Bengali parents from Calcutta. My parents came here in the mid 1960's and have lived a good life in this country.

Many (not all) have not achieved the life they were hoping for in this great country. What is to blame? Many of you blame is on racism, which is an easy thing to do as it shifts the blame for failure from oneself to someone else. Although racism exists, it is not as prevalent as some of your would suggest.

Your being born to Indian does not make you an Indian.
Most important fact is that a successful Indian turns out to be a supper flop in Canada. How do you justify? Or you want to say a High school pass out from Canada is a better choice to supervise foreign trained professional!!! How come you dont find white's on shop floor working $10/hr job?????
Any expert advise sir!!!

Its really rude to speak in your native language in the presence of other people who don't understand a word of it.

I still don't like canada and have my own reason for it. One of the reasons is the presence of desis like these.

~M

That would be a unique reason to leave any place.

The above habit is a sign of bad manners and not exclusive to Desis.
I have seen many others incl successful people do that.

As for your claim that a sucessful Indian turns out to be a super flop here in Canada is not always true. Unless I see some hard statistics, I won't comment on this point. Every blue colour job is not done by immigrants. There are lots of Caucasians who do such job where immigrants hold white colour jobs.

Lets forget about hard statistics.....there are studies done which suggest something is wrong with the system. Do a search here and you will find. Almost all of them dont paint a good picture.

Have you worked inside an establishement where manual or other kinds of labor is involved?

I think Charlie is right there.

Mind you this is labor we are talking about. No soft skills etc come into picture here. We are talking of physically intensive and very repetitive work here. Most requite literally days of training, sometimes even less.

Also throw some more light on your travels to other provinces that helped you to reach your conclusion.
Where did you go and what did you exactly do to gather information related to the the topic?

Till that time i will believe a guy who actually works in such a job.

Why do they do these jobs, well because these are the jobs available to them. I'm of Indian decent and I seriously doubt I would do cleaning or hard labour. Do the people born here have a sense of having a higher standing than immigrants. Yes. We feel this way not because we are racist or mean. It is hard to explain why?

Maybe those are the Jobs that are mostly available to them.

About sense of higher standing,
It maybe hard to explain, but give it a try. i really would like to know.
Please dont mind me probing you too much. i just want to know.
If you dont want to, thats allright too.

Yes. It is wrong, yes, but it is human nature. Look at in India; you have so many levels of discrimination.

Absolutely right. But we are talking about Canada.
In other thread we have already concluded that India has a lot of problems.
Thats why we left it. To be rid of it. If immigrants face some of those problems here then the questioning starts.

Its good that you admit Canada is not perfect.
Because thats impossible. For any country or groups of people.

I really am not here for my kids. I am here for myself.

Does not work for me...luckily I'm having a good life so I have not had to think of it much.

We born in Canada think of cleaners, taxi drivers, labourers the same way you thought of your servants in India.

I guess some of us born in india are one up on you w.r.t this. I not think of any of those occupations as beneath me (if thats what you are implying). If I have to do it I would...though I do not forsee myself doing it anymore than you do.

I agree with you on the other points.
