Hi, I am 28 married from the past 1 year and live in India. I have 4 year experience in the IT Helpdesk / Technical Call Center with US MNC's in India.
My Qualifications - Diploma in General Studies (Computing) - British Columbia Open University, Vancouver, Canada (I persued this course through a collaborative programme in India), B.Com from IGNOU and a 4 years Software Engineering Diploma from a leading IT Training Institute in India.
I have moved gradually from a IT Call Center agent to being an Assistant Manager during the last 4 years.
Now, the Canada Bug has bitten me and I am planning to apply. My Mom's sister is settled in Canada as a PR from the past 2 years.
I honestly want an opinion about me being able to immigrate and find a job in Canada (I am fine with an odd job and build my life from there)

Please, comment and suggest.

You can get a job in call centre (technical support) as an agent. If you are making pretty decent money, think again though. Call centers in India pay decent money (because USD/CAD converted to INR) as compared to if you are working in Canada (usually $4-5/hour more than minimum wage). Technical support call center jobs pay a bit more. I think call center in North America are already under pressure because of outsourcing.

You are a manager in India. Do you want to start as an agent again though?

Either way it is your call!

Hi Rajcanada,

I know call center jobs pay 7 - 15 CAD dollars and are under pressure of outsourcing ... yea I am a Manager now in Tech Call Center ... making good money ... but I feel in the long run life in India will be tough (specially for kids) ... too much competition, population, pollution and corruption ... too much people .. call centers can always shift to China or some low cost country ... and above all the local call center will always stay in the home country ... I look at it this way ... make a 10 year plan ...
2 - 3 years ... struggle ... then upgrade your skills / education and move up the value chain ... I hope a career in Hospatibility industry is also an option ... in India also we struggle ... it is just that we r comortable where we are ... and I guess with Child Education being free till Grade 12 and Healthcare free ... it seems a nice option ... above a population of 30 million ... life in the long run (30 years) seems much better than here (more and more population) ...

Your comments !!!!

o yea, not much competition here - the best part :) , and lesser population and pollution too. Corruption is a matter of dispute though. People have different opinions about this issue.

Your plan seems to be good.

People who immigrate to Canada thinking that they can make good money here too soon are disappointed lot. You have to bear with the system which does not recognize your work experience (outside Canada)or education (outside Canada) that easily.
