Well, you get 24/7 power supply only in Mumbai AND nowhere else in India. In Delhi, yes, you do, but that too only in the diplomatic enclave and hi-profile areas where the politicians/senior bureacts lives.
Rest of the country is a mess. Places like Pune & B’lore, which are supposed to be the IT hubs, has extensive power cuts & pollution. SW firms located in these cities have to invest in their own power backup systems worth crores to prevent blackouts in their offices. On a superficial level, and from the IT perspective, India seems to be making rapid progress, but go down to the basics, and you will feel that our basic infrastructure is still a mess. For e.g. visit any Govt. run hospital, and you will see what I mean. Dogs, cows, and touts have a free run in these places; the lives of the common people in India have not improved much, and corruption/pollution is increasing day-by-day. While trying to get my PCC for the visa from the Mumbai Police HQ near Crawford Mkt., the policeman on duty straightway told me to pay 3,000 INR for same day delivery, or wait for a month. I said I will wait for a month, and subsequently got the PCC's after 1 1/2 months. Imagine someone asking for a bribe while sitting in the Police HQ.
It’s very natural to be nostalgic about the place where you were born & grew up..........but taking a decision to move back to India based on nostalgia would be a big mistake. Think in practical terms, if possible come and work here for some months to see whether you can readjust yourself, and then take the final plunge.
And yes, as regarding the money part, if you have some North American/Canadian education and work experience, you will be given due preference during the hiring process in the MNC’s, and the compensation will also be matched accordingly. However, as I work with a world famous IT consulting firm, I am not very aware about the hiring practices of the Indian firms..........normally it differs
Thanx
PS: I am landing in TO on 13th April.
<<<<<<<Look at this gentleman samosa's post. It seems to be beyond him to conceive that Hi Speed Internet access and 24/7 power availability can be acquired in India just as well. And that India in fact has all the natural beauty of Canada and more. His only acceptable reason is perhaps the one about his being able to see deer from where he lives. Yeah, for that to happen in India he might have to live in the zoo. >>>>>>>>

Sumjo,
Either the system has changed or you are confused. And I know the system has not changed because you can't get PCC from police HQ. All those who have got a PC from Mumbai knows one gets it from the passport office.

Are you sure?. I remember the time spent in front of the policeman at the tilak nagar police station for my PCC. It was one of the only 2 visits to the police station so I am quite sure.
My bro just got his pcc for immigration....I believe, from the same place. I'll check with him to be sure.
