How come did the 18 year old have an affair with a 17 year old? Is there a legal age limit in Canada, for having an affair?
Poor girl, unlucky to have a stubborn, ego struck father who went to extremes of killing her.

I know there is something like 18 years of age for getting married. But I dont know the rest.

Check again, but in Canada the age is lower than other places. Much lower than 18 years.
