IMO, we should not compare Canada, US, and India. Each economy is different, again supply and demand scenario.
Those who want to move to US looking for six figure salary can do so immediately. No one is stopping them.

Most of the indians I have come across in North America are mostly IT guys and majority of them have (including me) have had issues with canadian experience.

In your own experience, were you called for an interview, and at the end of it all explicitly told by an employer that the job could not be offered to you only because you did not have Canadian experience?

I was called for an interview by more than 1 recruiter in Vancouver area and after seeing everything , he said your chances are pretty less as you do not have canadian experience and the employers generally like people who do .Why would they take a guy who has not worked in canada to somebody who has and also looking for a job. My 6 years of working in the silicon valley were not considered enough for the cdn experience. No wonder I was not considered for the job.

Yes ! you could always reason it with soft skills but thats not something I can prove on a website .

my 2 cents

Must be some sick recruiters. Why didn't you ask - "In that case, why have you wasted time both mine and yours?"

In all my interactions with the recruiters that I have come across, they have always tried to paint a rosy picture just so that I continue to give them my best attention. And that too when I was what they call FOB! :D

Any other experiences where people have been told flatly about this Canadian experience and lack of it?

Yep you are right . Thats what I did

from my previous message
-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Happened a lot with me and I often retaliated to them saying "Is your Oracle, Microsoft , Unix different from what we used in the US". After having 6 years of working in US , they had said "since you have not worked in Canada " and thats what pissed me off . Well of course, I did not get the job but I wanted to make sure they get the message

Actually You raised a good point. If some one rejects you on basis of soft skills, you surely are never going to know.

Myth?

Actually, when I came to Canada. I had the same issue with Canadian experience in my second interview. My response was a question: \"Where do you sell your products most?\" The answer was \"USA\". My response was \"Then why the hell you want Canadian Experience for.\" The interviewer were CEO and CTO who told me they buy my argument but they will put me in US customer facing role which I happily agreed to. They offered me the job at the end of the interview. That was my second f2f interview after 3 weeks of landing in Canada. They kind of liked my arrogance/ego along with US education and experience. Ofcourse they also were arrogant and have big egos thus clash of titans. In the end, we parted way after 18 months but I got two promotions and 25% pay raise in that time frame.
