A great movie......a sure qualifier for an Oscar in the foreign film category.
BLACK symbolises the spectrum of colours which we can see individually but the blind person cannot. It is also a portrayal by SLB of the great depth a visually challenged person can be made to reach by love and understanding......Black is beautiful. We appreciate light only and only because of the colour Black.
Just my say.

It is so simple to be happy but so difficult to be simple
"BLACK" IS A VERY VERY GOOD MOVIE. MR. AMITABH BACHHAN AND RANI MUKERJEE BOTH HAVE ACTED VERY WELL.
I do not know how many are aware - I am told that Black is the Bollywood version of 1962 Hollywood movie The Miracle worker, which is based on a true storyof Helen Keller. The actresses won Oscars for their performances.
Some comments about the original movie:
Hollywood has produced many fine pictures, but some transcend conventional greatness.
Washington Post --Inspiring films are rare, and 'The Miracle Worker' is precisely that.
I have just got this movie from the library starring Patty Duke and Anne Bancroft - I want to watch it before I watch Black! Seems something like 'Ek Ruka Hua Faisla' which was one of the best movies I have seen in my life - a 100% copy of '12 Angry men'.

Hi Guys,
Finally I watched BLACK .I kept my patience as I wanted to watch it on DVD only.
After watching this movie I really feel proud about Bollywood .
Couple of points I want to add.
(1)Not seen any child actor/actress acting in a Bollywood movie better than this.
(2)Amitabh/Rani both are superb ..to certain extent I was thinking about Kamal Hasaan/Sridevi's acting in Sadma & Sanjeev Kumar/Jaya Bhaduri in "Kausish".
btw I really hate to compare good remake bollywood movies with Hollywood original movies.BLACK may be a Hollywood remake but who cares ...that doesn't make any difference for a good movie lover ...correct?

Chandresh u r right ,
SLB didi visit Helen Keller Institute for inspiraton . I didnt know though that 'ERHF' was a remake of '12 angry men'. However I wudnt suggest u 2 watch Miracle Man first-- that way u can enjoy BLACK fresh !! As much as I enjoyed 'Ek Ruka hua Faisla'
BLACK is a landmark in Indian cinema ......... U feel the movie more than the scenes and music . With the amount of english thrown in and the lack of song & dance sequence BLACK appears closer to Hollywood movies .
Though all have performed outstandingly well but my preference stands out for Rani Mukherjee who doesnt resemble Rani Mukherjee as we know her ......... I applauded Al Pacino as Col Slade in Scent of a Woman but Rani has outdid that by far .
Manasvi.
A late entry on this movie, but one nevertheless. Movie was good, acting was good. But I didn't quite fancy some moves that Rani was enacting. Primarily, I think the child artiste created perfect groundwork for Rani to step in.... but what in God's name was that walk???.... I mean I have seen blind people walking on the streets of Bombay. They never hog the entire street, I may be interpreting this incorrectly, but why was she walking like a penquin all the time. Imagine if 2 or 3 blind people walked like that on the streets (specially in B'Bay), the govt. would have to create streets for the rest to walk on...... In fact, from my school days I've noticed blind people near our school, standing in a corner, asking for alms, or walking in such a dignified manner, except their "seeing stick" would be tapped this way and that, but I never once saw anyone walking that exaggeratedly.... just miffed me when I saw it.
