it is not clear what you want to convey. first of all, getting 100k salary in canada is not easy. Don't go by salary survey.

I am in Mumbai right now. I think i have read canadian desi enough to expect life full of hard work and struggle for the next 3 years. I almost decided not to immigrate. I did take a look at the salary survey and i think making 65k in 2008 (I am a IT person) should not be difficult for me. When i land if i get anything that gives me 10-12$ per hour will be good for me. Also when i get married my wife can work part time and make 25k-35k so we will make around 90-100k which i believe from what i read decent enough.

For me right now in India if i plan to take a car like a Accent on company lease and buy a 2BHK house in Mumbai on a home loan which i will pay for 15-20years it will take me 18K + 20k rupees montly on installments only.
Then add 5K for petrol i think i will need atleast 44K + 25K (living) minimum with my wife after tax. Thats basically 70k after tax which is more than a lakh a month before tax.

Now i may or may not get that after 3 years in India but i may be able to afford a smililar lifestlye in Canada, 3 years struggle to live lifetime in a place with better quality of life, better quality of goods, governence, environment is well worth the effort for me.

Its not that i love canada, after i get citizensip after 3 years i will not hesitate to move to US/UK or any other country that pays more...its just that with a Canadian passport/PR things are easier....

Comments are welcome.

You may or may not be able to achieve that in India in 3 years. Same is TRUE for Canada.

Yeah i have a cousin sister who moved there on 2003 year and has more or less the same qualifications as me and currently makes 80k. She told me that job situation is not as bad as i make it out. So i think i will take the chance of coming.

this site has cleared all my high expectations of job and make me aware that i have to work ground up to suceed which i have now mentally prepared myself to do..come what may...

See you in Canada soon ( next 3-6 months)

Everyting else sounds positive abt moving to Canada . Something intangible that one often fails to take note of while thinking abt a better life style is job satisfaction.

If a Computer or Mechanical Engineer has to work as a labourer / odd job u realise the job satisfaction thing then . I wish even if ample technical $12 - $15 jobs were present , disappointment would be much less.

Mr. Natehc,

Getting a job of $80k in Canada is like winning a lottery........in this part of the world we call it winning 10Kg Gold raffle or Duty free raffle.

If you are that fortunate..........then you will rule in any part of the world.....

Else if you only depend on your capability/ talent........you are living in dreams...........

Your cousin (80k) might be one of those fortunate lots.......

You try your luck and see for yourselves whether you are in the 10% fortunate lot or the remaining 90%............

By the way your expectations that you had mentioned is what you normally see in English movies........that lifestyle is not the reality for a normal person in Canada.

Best of luck pal................

I am really very surprised to read the replies posted by many on this topic. Yes, getting a 80 k salary is not very common here - but not very uncommon too. Only thing is that whatever said and done, there is a huge divide in the kind of persons one interacts with in Canada. It seems that most of the members on this forum are either unemployed like me, or stuck up in petty jobs/or are underemployed and so they interact ONLY with people who are themselves in those brackets, which gives them a different picture.

In my opinion, I would like to pass a very general statement - anyone who is capable of getting about 15 lakhs or above in India, is fit enough to get above 70 K here in Canada. Those who make less than that in India, will definitely get less here in Canada. It is a very general statement, based on my interaction and experience with various people at different levels of employment in India and in Canada. The general statement is based on the fact that one will not be able to get more as an immigrant if he did not get a good salary in his own country.

As I have written elsewhere in this forum, I know atleast a dozen persons, who are my good friends, who earn more than 70 k and their family incomes are more than 100 k. Yes, I do know atleast 3 dozen who do not get that kind of salary - but that does not mean getting about 75k is 'luck'. Like any other place in this world, if your skill is in demand, you will get that salary, but if your skill, though it might be a great achievement, is NOT in demand, you will struggle to get even a job, forget about a good salary.
