Hi,
I just received my passport and landing papers. Before i decide to move or not to canada can someone help me with the following information:
What will be the average money one has to spend per month if me any my wife
1) Live in a 2BHK house in a decent area in a decent canadian city.
2) I eat out in restaurants (meal for 2) maaybe 6 out of the 14 lunch and dinner meals.
3) We enjoy weekend pleasures like movies, theme parks, pubs etc.
4)Have all the latest tech gadgets at home like DVD player, tv etc..
5) Have 1 car and 1 bike or 2 cars considering insurance and everything else. (either new or relatively new second hand car).
I mean how much money do u need to earn before tax do all this and to save maybe

Try overtaking child's imagination
You need minimum 5000- 6000 CAD per month take home salary for above things. So, you have to earn around 10,000 CAD per month.

Driller the thriller
1. If its just you and your wife, you do not need a 2bedroom apartment. You can rent a 1 bedroom apartment and put away the balance money towards down payment of your future dream house.
2. Several restaurants offer buffet lunch which usually works out much more economical (anywhere from $7 to $15 for all you can eat), dinner is usually a-la-carte (around $40 per meal, no drinks).
3. Movies are $15 per head. Matinee shows are discounted.
4. DVD = $40 to $150, TV's are: $200 to $5000 or more.
5. Unless you are a major bike afficionado, a bike is pretty much useless in the Canadian weather - its garaged 6 months of the year and insurance premiums are higher on bike.
I am sorry, mon ami, but I think some expectation management is required here.
Your location field is blank, so we don't know where you are coming from or what kind of lifestlyle you are used to.
But based on your questions, it seems that you are coming with a lot of initial expectations.
Unless you have a highly paid job pre-arranged before landing, you may find it difficult to meet all these lifestyle expectations right away.
As somebody pointed out, you need a gross montly income of around $10,000 to be able to sustain this lifestyle.
If you can manage that - then great for you !
Otherwise, you may want to tone down your expectations some to avoid disappointment.

I am in Mumbai right now. I think i have read canadian desi enough to expect life full of hard work and struggle for the next 3 years. I almost decided not to immigrate. I did take a look at the salary survey and i think making 65k in 2008 (I am a IT person) should not be difficult for me. When i land if i get anything that gives me 10-12$ per hour will be good for me. Also when i get married my wife can work part time and make 25k-35k so we will make around 90-100k which i believe from what i read decent enough.
For me right now in India if i plan to take a car like a Accent on company lease and buy a 2BHK house in Mumbai on a home loan which i will pay for 15-20years it will take me 18K + 20k rupees montly on installments only.
Then add 5K for petrol i think i will need atleast 44K + 25K (living) minimum with my wife after tax. Thats basically 70k after tax which is more than a lakh a month before tax.
Now i may or may not get that after 3 years in India but i may be able to afford a smililar lifestlye in Canada, 3 years struggle to live lifetime in a place with better quality of life, better quality of goods, governence, environment is well worth the effort for me.
Its not that i love canada, after i get citizensip after 3 years i will not hesitate to move to US/UK or any other country that pays more...its just that with a Canadian passport/PR things are easier....
