New immigrants to Canada are unlikely to get a job befitting their education and professional training, according to a report by Statistics Canada.

Six out of 10 newcomers switch their fields altogether after coming to this country. Many highly trained professionals settle for positions in sales or manufacturing, if they manage to land a job at all.

Guru Jee

Thanks for this relevant info. But I'm asking "From your experience tell us why Canadian wats desi's like us??" I mean where can we find the most and easy jobs these days??

Give it a serious thinking, As the recession and slow economy has to deal with the growth rate. But the need of the humans and industry are always there and may be changing. So, we are asking for the hot job areas for desi's these days..

Yours personal experience, peeping and listening to the signals will give us right information.

I still don't understand this behaviour. Something is wrong there. Don't know but Canadian Ecomony is not that strong that they are forced to hire each and every new comer. That's why they comeup with the term "Canadian Experience" - how come a java programmer need to have "canadian experience"? do sun have different java for canada? These guys are funny sometimes. However things are not so bad always. For example the company I am working for is ready to hire any body with relevant field experience from whatever part of world.

I think the situation will change as the time goes by. Not sure when.

Second question I am asking people is - if all of us (new immigrant) will do job in their field - who will become labor? I don't see any such labor pool here that can replace 50000+ immigrants coming every year to Toronto :(

So they need labors, and that is what we are :(

Which field is good? Not sure, software development is not there right now. Some specialized engineerings like chemical, process might be good, but again it depends. As mentioned somewhere on this board - Calgary, Edmonton are good for engineers.

Pharmacy related fields are good.

Comment:

What I understand by the term "Canadian Experience" is not the hard skills but the soft skills. Companies look for people who have some experience of working in Canada or "some" other western countries.

I believe that the working environment tends to differ to some extent in western and easter countries.

I don't know how good it is to ask some immigrant who has just landed to have "Canadian Experience", but then again its the company that has the final say.

I don't know how accurate I am but thats what I understand of the term "Canadian experience".

Garvo,

The "Canadian Experience" is just an excuse. They just dont have enough skilled jobs and what they have are consumed by local people, students who are graduating every year etc....

I once made a mistake, but I was wrong about it.
