DEAR ALL,

I hapen to be in the senior immigrant lot i,e, +45 yrs of age ,who have been
asked to refrain from immigration by majority on this forum.

My question is ,if my wife immigrates along with my two daughters and
I continue to support them sticking to my well paid job in MIDDLE EAST,
then I shall be taxed for the first three years till I am PR,after which I shall
be free from tax clutches as my PR will lapses.
Thereafter I shall support my family financially ,they all will be citizens by then
and I shall continue to visit them regularly as visitor or if needed they can sponsor me or the daughters can enter the stream of CANADA LIFE and me and my wife shall retreat to INDIA.(As it is after 12th std daughters will be in hostel).

Am I right in my understanding?

Awiating the reaction from the fellow members.

Good Idea
If you are going to show your absence from Canada why do they need to tax you? Experts of this board can reply to you. I think for the money you get in Canada, you have to pay tax on the interest amount. My guess.
Really a very good workable proposal.

Having a spouse and / or dependents in Canada is considered having 'residential ties' to Canada. Consequently, you could be assessed to tax on your 'world income' that includes salary income that you earn in the Middle East.

what quality of life would you have staying away from your own family and meeting them as a "visitor" just to save a couple of thousand dollars as taxes.

My .02 cents

Dear CRENSHAW,

I agree with you that I will be taxed even if I donot stay in CANADA and
my family stays. But once three years are over and I donot immigrate
my PR will lapse and I will be out of perview of CANADA tax as I will
cease to be a PR.
In such a situation my family can continue to be there getting financially supported from me and I can visit them on visit visa.

Any thoughts on this??

And DEAR SMILEY,

I agree with you about visiting the family as visitor will not be
a 'QUALITY" life ,but whole family coming to CANADA and suffering
the hardship which seem to have no silver lining for a senior (age) person like me is definately a far more "quality less"life than the proposal that I
am thinking.

As you are ready to loose your PR status, rule says:
First principal applicant has to enter along or without dependent
After your wife and children get PR, it does not matter even if you refuse to continue with PR on the very next day Because now that your wife and children are PR, they hold a independent status. IMHO, you need not drag you PR status more than 2 months till family members get their respective PR cards to avoid filling of tax in Canada.

you have discussed this mattr at great length earlier - almost a year back if I remember correctly.

If you really think that your daughters can stay here and you parents can return to whereever you want, why don't you simply send them to study in Canadian University once they are eligible for it.

You might say that you would like to stay with them till they complete university - would not like to leave them alone and things like that. But as per Canadian lifestyle, we have to let go our children once they reach university. Many of them in any case live on campus, or if not in the same town as where you stay, in residence or in rented apartments/houses, away from you. Infact that is what actually you admire (as an outsider) in Canadian children - they are confident, and more independent. To get from or for your children what you like about Canadian way of living, you have to let them do their things independently.
