I am sorry I am confused ..

You will get your T-4 from your employer if you have worked in Canada and then you file taxes and get your refund etc and you get to keep a copy of your tax return and get a notice of assessment from CRA that you taxes were accepted or not.

Taxation is fedral and CRA sends you the notice of assessment, Don't think it has anything to do with provinces.

We will find a way or we will make one

Madhuri,
I think the confusion we have here is because of the wrong notations we are using...

Just to re-clarify, Dont know/care about US, but the notations we use here are :

T4/T5/Releve 4, etc : These are called Information slips that are sent to you by your employer. Your employer has to issue them by the last day of February. ( Employers from all provinces INCLUDING Quebec :) are required to send these)

Tax return: This is what we individuals file and send to CRA (Canada Revenue Agency)

Notice of assesment : Once the CRA receives the income tax return that we file, it sends us back the notice of assesement.

U can get more information at http://www.cra-arc.gc.ca/

Some key dates (for individuals) :

Your tax return for 2004 has to be filed by April 30, 2005

Deadline for contributing to your RRSP for the 2004 tax year is March 1, 2005 –

Also, we have both Federal and Provincial taxation here.

For most provinces, you just file one tax return (and provincial taxes are included within)
For other provinces like Quebec, you have to file two tax returns seperately ( federal and provincial)
