Thats precisely true about what I am trying to communicate. My perception about the usefullness of this site, remains best for me.

Any problems sharing those "perceptions"? I would really like to understand how this particular site has been particularly useful in helping you come better prepared. Other than factual information on some specific issues, most of which is also available from alternate sources if one is keen enough to search for it himself, what else has this site provided that has benefitted you and in what way?
Why are you avoiding giving me a simple answer to a simple question.
Quote:
Orginally posted by VJ
It would give me further justifications once I achieve my goals based upon the same.

I am sure you will achieve your goals, but the point in my question is not whether you will achieve your goals or not.
I am only interested in knowing from you what exclusive enlightenment have you gained from this message board that has helped you be confident of success. I am not talking about factual information made available here. Advice like getting your SIN, attending HRDC workshops, making resumes in the "canadian" style, altering/modifying resumes to suit the specific jobs, networking, apartment rents, cold calling, following up, researching info about the company before being interviewed etc etc is common knowledge and even if not, one gets to learn all this very soon after landing.
Is it only stuff like this that you have learnt from your association here that prompts you to applaud and compliment this board, or is there more, because if there is, then for some reason, it is not visible to me. And that may very well be because of the fact that I am already here and am not able to look at it from a prospective immigrant's point of view.

My understanding about this site may match my life parameters. For e.g. I am an engineer and found substancial stuff or information about engineering field from this website. I found it very crucial to go further and build my road map. So for me it was this website which gave a booster as an engineer. Thats why I had written this.

Yes! It is precisely something like this that I am asking. What "substantial stuff" did you find about the engineering field from this board that has helped build your "road map" and what is that "road map"? Do you mean information like getting your P.Eng, re-educating yourself to get an engineering degree from here, what? What info here gave you, what you call, the "booster"??
Quote:
Orginally posted by VJ
Similarly, for my field, I found great data from this website.

What "data" for your field?
Quote:
Orginally posted by VJ
SO CONCLUDE LIKE THIS.....BASICs WHICH ARE COMMON FOR ALL FIELDS can easily be explored/searched from the site and for which, you can't put the GUN on VJ's shoulder and ask to shoot.

I guess you are translating from the that saying in hindi that goes something like "doosrey ke kandhey pe bandook rakh ke chalaana". What leads you to believe that I am using you for something that "can easily be explored/searched from the site" and for which I need to " put the GUN on VJ's shoulder and ask to shoot"??
Quote:
Orginally posted by VJ
And my claim of whether information matching to one's own field or not from this website, remains intact. As for me, its been fantastic.

I believe you. Just want to know more details on the "how" of it?
Quote:
Orginally posted by VJ
I would share about what I followed from the "BASICS" part of this website and what I am following to build the foundation in my own field, taking help from this website.
I have still another 2/3 months to leave and I am already having 7 appointments of various people in my field to meet after landing.

Please do share! That's exactly the type of info I am requesting you to provide. Can't you see how it will help other people? I assume the appointments are with potential employers. It is indeed admirable that you have been able to achieve so much without even setting foot in the country and that is exactly what I am requesting you to share. What information did you extract from here that helped you get those 7 appointments? Can't you see how sharing your knowledge will help others too?

So for a guy who has spent 14 years in SALES, needs only this to start. "FIRST ENTRY TO THE CUSTOMER's/PROSPECT's DOOR". And this is a small outcome of my education from the BASICS and APPLICATION/SKILLS SPECIFIC DATA search.

"FIRST ENTRY TO THE CUSTOMER's/PROSPECT's DOOR" - As a person with 14 years in sales, are you trying saying that you learnt this mantra from THIS board???

"SOMETIMES YOU HAVE TO READ WHAT IS NOT WRITTEN".

Maybe I can try and read betwen lines, and even that needs some hints. How do you expect me to read "WHAT IS NOT WRITTEN"??:D

Hope to hear more details this time around.

Regards.

Hi,

Generally I do not get in to debates, especially in those, where the outcome is not a GOAL-specific. I still go back to my judgement about your perception/bottomline,that somehow you know the answers of your question. And i.e. you feel, there are much better sources then this site, the prospective immigrants should be exploring. Or you feel that there is no value addition offered by this website.

Because I very well remember you sending some URLs of other sites, which you thought are much better then this site. So once again I am telling you that its your judgment, I respect that but requesting you to stop asking questions with the EYES of your point of view.

I have read a post of yours recently, in which you had almost scolded a new junior DESI that he does not know Googling or bla bla bla for doing search before coming to CD... See please do not take it otherwise but somoehow I feel that you SURF this site with a PRE-OCCUPIED point of view. For e.g. 6 MEN standing at STATION - A and they have to reach STATION B, and it may happen that all 6 choose different roads to reach STATION -B. Some may reach early, some may reach late and some may even do not reach. (AM I LOUD and CLEAR NOW?....I know your answer)

See Hindi main ek kahavat hai, "AAMDANNI ATHANNI NE KHARCHA RUPAIYA"...Let's get back to our life. I have my reasons, why I am an active member of this website. Let's stop this TENIS GAME.

Regards & hey sorry if I have hurt you somewhere.

VJ.

I donlt understand how you are considering this exchange as a debate. I am not in favour, or against a motion, and nor are you. So where is the debate? I am just asking you some very specific questions that deserve specific answers. If you do not have answers, that is another thing and it would be better if you say so, and agree that there really was nothing tangible that you gained from this site except perhaps inspiration, encouragement and support. If that be the case then I will pass, else if you still maintain your claim, then I will continue to ask, until you decide to rebuff me and ask me to stop asking!

I really don't! Else why would I ask?

The sites that I gave you were only example to reinforce my opinion that there are other easily available, and much better, resources on tips and hints for successful job hunting and settlement for immigrants. Those sites I quoted was only to know from you what you learnt from your association and exchanges on THIS board, that is not covered or not available elsewhere, other than of course personal experiences of which both types are abundant here! And that too I asked only because you claimed so!

I did not say that there is NO value addition from the posts here.
I only wish to know the "value addition" that this board provided YOU? What is it that YOU as a prospective immigrant learnt from this board, that made you confident of success, that acted as a "booster", that helped you "plan" and what exactly is that plan? I do not mean to denounce the board or criticize the posts of members. The posts have been very interesting and it is fun to read thro them and I enjoy all the arguments, the disparate views, the combative skills of the members as well as some useful information. But to be honest, I have not found anything unique or exceptionally educational, especially something that can help someone plan any better than what he would otherwise. However you claim that you have gained immensely from this board, specifically with respect to formulating your strategies and plans for success. And my question is only regarding that.

It is not only what I think! They are professionally developed resources designed to specifically address the issues that they deal in, and come highly recommended. You'd be dishonest if you say that they were NOT better resources on the subjects concerned??

I am not asking any questions from anyone's point of view, let alone mine! :D I am just curious about the circumstances and framework of your claim.

I do recall that, although for some reason I am not able to retrieve that post when searching in "charcha" with my username.
:: hijack::
Request: Could the mods/admin please see why that happens? I do not see ALL my posts when using the "search" feature in "Charcha"
::end hijack::
Now I want you to consider the following 2 scenarios.
Scenario 1. This man has access to a computer and the internet and has a very simple query.
He opens google/yahoo/msn whatever, types in the word/phrase that he wants information on, and hits "enter". The google search engine immediately provides him with the answer. The man reads the answer and is on his way.
Total time taken: 2 mins to get full, factual and correct information from the original source.
Effort:
1. Connecting to the internet.
2. Few keystrokes and mouse clicks - only one time.

Scenario 2:
This man has access to a computer and the internet and has a simple query.
He opens canadiandesi.com.
Opens a new thread.
Types in his query and posts it.
Waits for someone to respond. No one responds.
Shuts down computer. Goes home/to bed.
Logs on again. Checks for replies. None yet. Logs off. Shuts down computer. Goes home/to bed.
Logs on again. Checks for replies. If some member has taken interest and has bothered to respond, he finds a reply. Depending on the quality of the responder the reply could be right and complete, right but incomplete, or wrong altogether.
The man asks more clarifications.
More replies.
Assuming that the man eventually does get a proper reply:
Time spent: From immediate(considering best scenario of someone responding immediately but virtually impossible) to 2 to 3 days, or even never
Effort: Repeated logging in and checking.
Risk: Wrong information.

Now YOU tell me, which is the better option?? Is it really so difficult o understand that option 1 is better? Does it really have to be TOLD to people? I mean who in his right mind would not try to search for an answer himself? Beats me! And if they don't , shouldn't they be told??
Ever heard of the saying? : Feed a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime.

I do not get the relevance of the "AAMDANNI ATHANNI NE KHARCHA RUPAIYA" thing in this discussion. I am ot asking you the "reasons, why you are an active member of this website."
And where is the tennis game?? What is the ball, what is the court and what are the racquets??:D
And no you can't hurt me because I am not playing any game.:D

I agree with DiogenestheCynic here. Frankly this is something we people can improve upon. We (as desis) are used to being spoon fed. Even if some information is posted on the notice board , we will again go and reconfirm with the receptionist (as an example). But here in canada the attitudes are different. People know where to go looking for the answers to their queries and of course if they still need help then it is available. No spoon feeding here. I find this even in my daughter's school and she is in junior kindergarden!

My Dear friend DiogenestheCynic,

Please go to the last paragraph of my last POST.

Quote:

The meaning is..."LET'S CONCLUDE'. I very well know the reasons, why I am an active member of this site. I just told myself after reading your last post wondering..."WHICH ARE THE REASONS OF YOUR MEMBERSHIP"? :D

Any way, but let me tell you one thing, if I start my own company in Canada, I would surely offer a you a post of "ANALYSER". But hey, there I would ask for some SERIOUS / CONSTRUCTIVE ANALYSIS right?... It would be a great synergey of my positive attitude and your ability to play the TENIS GAME (:D )....

Hey don't mind if I stop answering you in this thread. I know lot of other games, so would prefer to play them right now as they are more important for me to play before entering CANADA.

Regards & cheers "HAPPY DIWALI"

VJ

VJ,

I am sorry you disappoint me! Anyways, as I said, since you do not have answers to the simple questions that I asked, I am forced to conclude that your claim that your association with this board helped you frame and construct your plan and strategies better for post landing success, was nothing but rhetoric and hyperbole.
You have been an active participant on this board. You claim to have benefitted immensely from your association here. Initially you had decided not to come. By your own claim, you have a decent job at home, a good salary and have good experience. Despite that you have changed your decision and are now coming. You have the "positive" attitude that has earned the ovation and applause from so many members here who feel that it will be THE single most significant key to your success in this country. In view of all this your's will be an interesting case to keep in the viewfinder.
I have no intentions of suggesting you change your decision, and I know you won't because you have set your mind to it. But since you have been around for so long, been quite active and a lot of the members here have gotten to know you so well, I am opening another thread with the question:
Having known Mr VJ on this board for so long, how many of you feel he should immigrate and how many think that he should not?

Hope you do not mind. However, if you do, please let me know, with reasons if possibe, and I will delete the post.

Regards.
