You compare Indian reporting with American media. Indian media don’t claim to be “fair and balanced” We know before we turn on Indian TV, what kind of garbage we will get. Plus India never claims to be the “Leader of Free World”. India and other countries are not going on pre-emptive strikes and India does not give lecture to rest of the world on human rights.
FOX is not the only TV channel in the US but it’s certainly the most popular one. That shows what most Americans are watching and what they like to listen to. There was a time when “Liberal” word was proudly being spoken. Now if you are a politician in the US and Word “Liberal” is attached to you then your political career is almost over. That tell you how tolerant society is becoming and which direction it’s going. US is a great country and still doing fine but I hate to say this but direction USA is going right now is not quite promising. Even most Americans believe that

What I meant that we should cry on all the blood and protest where ever there is killing of innocent people and don’t give preference to the ones who we like.

Dear Satesh,

I am sure you know the difference between CREATINNG , MAINTAINING or SUSTAINING. And you will also agree that there is a huge difference between DEVELOPED, DEVELOPING and UNDERDEVELOPED. You will further agree to the fact that US IS ONE OF THE SUPER POWERS. Tell me if you gain a status in anything, aren't you gonna develope a science to maintain or sustain that status? (when such sept 11 kind of thing happens).

I don't think you will hear these line “Leader of Free World" from any small country. Those who have acquired a status, would always fear of fall. I believe that "ITS EASY TO BUILD BUT ITS VERY DIFFICULT OR IMPORTANT TO MAINTAIN IT"..

Whatever US is doing that is precisely the game of maintaining the power and reinforce the same after sept 11th kind of mishap..

Hey don't take me as if I am PRO-US..I am a normal human, who has tried to put his views on a topic. (DIL PAKKA HINDUSTANI HAI)..

Rgds,

VJ

The last time I was in India, NDTV was running Star News (I understand that has since changed), and they claimed to offer fair and balanced news coverage.

India simply does not have the military capability to launch pre-emptive strikes in a manner that the US military does. Else I’m sure one of our neighbours would have heard from us. The Indian military does talk in terms of the possibility of ‘hot pursuit’ of terrorists across the Line of Control in Kashmir. Again, when you look at it realistically, the military capability to do that (and deal with its consequences) does not exist.

Satesh, don’t mean to pick on ya. In fact, I get probably as irritated as you do, when I see shows like the Bill O’Reilly show or Lou Dobbs (he’s the anti-outsourcing guy on CNN), for the distortions that they portray. The US does have right-wing extremists in much the same way that India does, and their right wing has gotten more powerful, this being a time of conflict. However, to paint all Americans with the same brush is unfair.

Guys
I am not anti-American. I have to admit , I am a hard core liberal, yep one of NDP guys, and people like me does not have much say in USA politics anymore and that sucks.
I love USA and what it has done for millions of immigrants. It has been and still an inspiration to many, many immigrants around the world and have message of hope for them. I am one of those who think that USA constitution is one the best written document by man. My frustration is more out of hurt, seeing USA going in wrong way, than anything else.

ARROGANCE is an attribute of people. Its a soft attribute of any human kind and we can't simply decide with few people's arrogance for the whole country.

VJ (or Vijay???)

I presume that you are in India, and not much exposed to US media-people as people here in Canada.

I am not talking about the arrogant nature, inherent in every human being. I am talking about the arrogance of being an American. This feeling is quite different from an arrogance of , say a wealthy person.

Americans are like a frog in well, who do not know that a whole world exists outside of US. I bet most of American would not know the name of PM of Canada or President of US.(Somebody can provide the actual data provided in survery done few months ago) For them, world begins from Washington State, and ends in Florida.

For them, anything that US does is right and justified, everybody else that do not agree with them are wrong.

Regarding your feelings about WTC attack, how many innocent people have been killed in India because of terrorist attacks in Punjab, Kashmir, Bombay, Gujarat and Eastern states? It is just that India does not belive in overblowing its trumpet. Also, how many civilians got killed in Iraq war? Does anybody has any exact numbers?

Even though I am a big fan of Simpsons, I do not watch some of their episodes which do not agree with my ideology. Even in politically incorrect shows like South Park, they do cross the limit between national pride and arrogance.
